Getting a green cheek!!!

Hello all! My parents said that if I can save enough money then I can get a green cheek!!!!!

I'm soooo excited there is a cage I will get for a year or so. It is called Prevue pet slant roof cage at petsmart. If I get straight As in shool this quarter then I will get 30 bucks since this is the third quarter. It is looking good now. If I get straight As in the fourth then I'll get 40. That is 70. I need a minimum of about 190 or so for the bird and DNA sexing. For my bday in May hopefully Ill get petsmart gift cards from friends and money from family then I'm almost there. From now by the time I get all that if I do my chores ill have about 100!!! Any tips although I've done research, will be appreciated! Any mutations also. If cinnamon, the names will be.........

Cynamynn if female.
Cobalt if male.

You could buy that tiny Prevue Pet Slant Roof Cage for $100, or you could save up the money to purchase a larger cage for maybe $30 or so.

It may be fine, but wider cages are better than tall cages. Birds fly horizontally, and tend to stick to the upper reaches, so a cage that is longer than it is tall is more likely to get fully utilized than a cage that is taller than it is wide.

Yes Monicamc but I saw that it is fit as a flight cage for Parakeets and finches. Green cheeks are bigger and stronger so I will get that one listed above probably. Either that or model 124

Also, just another thought since you are trying to save money...how important is it for you to DNA test your bird? At least you don't have to right away. I originally thought I would...but now I cant imagine calling him a her if I found out differently...and he doesnt care

This one is NOT SUITABLE for a Green Cheek because the bar spacing is 3/4"!!

These 2 cages are very good for Green Cheeks and the kind I recommend to people buying my babies (I breed Green Cheeks).

This is WAYYY too small. Period.

Even as a sleeper/night time only cage? I wasn't anticipating our GCC spending much time in the cage except at night. I'm hesitant to get something too large and extravagant, I would rather save up and wait till after my bf and I get our own apartment. (We have roommates now, and the bird would be in our bedroom where we spend the most time) Plus I regard adopting the bird as a feathery child, as we aren't ready to have children ourselves... it seems weird to keep it locked up and not involved in daily activities.

I'm looking for something sturdy and of good quality, minimum size and expense, that I can build a play gym around. Any suggestions?

I've seen people caging african greys and cockatoos in those flight cages! Now, I honestly wouldn't recommend housing anything larger than a medium sized conure in it, but it is most definitely suitable for a green cheek! I know many green cheek owners who have bought this cage because it's a great price for the size. Cockatiels are larger than green cheek conures, and I keep my guys in a flight cage. I currently have them in a double flight cage, but I do have an old picture of 5 cockatiels, a bourke parakeet and a budgie in the single flight.

Also, conures are a type of parakeet! A parakeet is any small parrot with a long tapering tail. This includes conures, cockatiels, ringneck parrots, budgies and other similar sized birds.

If you don't have a lot of room, get the biggest that you have room for and upgrade later. A lot of people don't actually think about how much time they'll have to allow their birds out and will think what they do have is enough. Or perhaps life changes. This is why it's usually best to go with the largest cage that you can comfortably afford and have room for. If you don't have the money, but you do have the space, then save up a little longer.

Only you can really judge what you have room and time for.

Well I was going to buy a slant roof cage and then save up for the flight cage. Is this ok? I am asking a lot of questions bc my bday is in a couple months and I will be buying around then.

That's the cage style I have for my GCCs. Definitely has good, solid bars, reasonable horizontal space, and (to my liking) has just enough depth (20"))... if space and money existed, I would have gotten all of them what I have for Tybbi:

Didn't realize that conures are parakeets - they just seem larger, and potentially stronger.

Definitely more animated, loving, and strong-willed than the little blue $12 parakeets, though...

I bought my flight cage from ebay, $120 and free shipping. Best deal out there for size and price, and surely it couldn't take you long to save up the extra $20??
Those small cage for close to $100 are a complete rip off.
