My sun conure Sunny loves to be covered up at night with his big blanket of course, but lately he's been screaming and looking at his blanket wanting to be covered up during the day! I tried hiding the blanket underneath his cage, but he goes down to the bottom grate and screams, walks back and forth looking for his blanket! Do sun conures normally love being covered and in the dark? lol I have tried keeping him entertained with toys, attention, foraging, etc but he still just loves being covered. If he could he'd be covered almost all day and night (of course I don't allow that lol!) I know it's not good for him to be covered a lot except at night.

Anyone else have this problem? Maybe it's a security issue? Safety issue?

He is 8 years old and a spoiled brat too!

He has always loved being covered up but this is getting to be a little bit much you know?!

I have even tried just covering him for an hour during the day for some down time when he gets screechy and wants his blanket. Maybe he's not getting enough sleep?

It's nesting season & covered cages make excellent places for conures to makes nests in. All conures are opportunistic nest makers.....they rake what's available, heck, the orange wing conure burrows into a large termite mound and lets the termites incubate its eggs.....

After a month or two, nesting instincts should be gone 'til the nesting urge returns again.....

It's not a "nesting thing" I believe. He likes to be covered up since he was a baby! He has a snuggle tent or "sleeve" that he loves too, but really loves being covered with his blanket. We only allow him to be covered up at night though, otherwise he'd never come out of the dark lol!
