In my local area I am the only person qualified to work on birds within a 6 hour drive. I provide minor treatments and maintenance as well as providing avix medicine, avian biotech testing, and basic counseling such as cage advice and food advice..
One of the person I help has a sun conure with a rapidly spreading white spot on his beak. He was housed with a macaw previously and fed a very poor diet. The macaw punctured his brain and this conure is slow, cant use its wings, and wont chew on things or play like a normal bird.
The owner thinks its "cancer" but I am very doubtful and I think it might just be something simple like flakes appearing very light on a dark beak.

Does anyone have an opinion or past experience regarding a white spot on a black beak?

My macaw had a white spot on his beak..it got bigger and bigger and became brittle...then he was given to me...this was on the leading edge about dead center...

Idk what it looked like in the early stages.

I changed his diet and the vet treated it with some form of antifungal. After a few weeks of a better diet and a few days of the antifungal..his beak gave way to a new layer...no white...

Could it be his beak is flaking in that area?

Also, that's terrible to hear that they allowed a macaw to get ahold of a sun conure...:( I hope they try to stimulate the poor thing...keep its life interesting....

Picture would help... and sounds like a diet change is required. Anything else, an avian vet would be ideal.

I'd think fungal, I've read about some birds getting white on their beaks and it falling off. I forget if it was for flighted or ground birds.
