Poppy - Crimson Bellied Conure
Hi everyone my fiancé and I picked up Poppy yesterday from our breeder, she is 1 month old. I think that is a good age to rare a baby?

We are syringe feeding her, though she would rather eat from the syringe rather than inserting into her mouth, it takes around 35 minutes to feed her 10ml of her feed.

Here are some photos

She is very cute and loves to cuddle into my neck/hair.

When is a good time to start training her (potty etc)

Thanks all and take care.

Sarah.

Poppy already looks beautiful. That's a wonderful picture. Is this the first time you've hand fed a parrot?

I don't want to start a debate over potty training, but I would look into the possible negative consequences it can have. Some parrots will hold going potty while waiting for your 'permission' to do so and it can have very bad consequences. If you just mean going potty in particular areas, that's a little easier. Obviously wait until she is strong enough to perch for long periods of times and start praising her when she goes where YOU want her too. Try to notice her body language when she is about to go and then quickly move her to the desired area and use your word for going potty and then praise her when it happens.

Hi, my fiancé has hand fed babies before but I have experience only with white doves (my dad was a breeder in the past).

I have been noticing her body language before she poops, so we hold her over her little cage and it works great :)

Also I´ve noticed she´s more relaxed with us and eating more comfortably and in a shorter time scale, she loves being with us and lots of cuddles :D
