GCC Bandit happily hangs out on the seed catcher around her cage. That doesn't seem normal ... your thoughts?

She spent most of the first year of her life in a glass-front display cage at a pet store. I brought her home about six weeks ago and put her in a 20x20x50-ish cage on a stand. The top of her cage (with playtop) is at about 5 feet.

Her cage is about 10 feet from her "older brother," a 25-year-old Quaker Parrot (the avatar cuz he's so handsome). His cage is slightly larger, but same heights.

Everything I've read says that these birds prefer being higher rather than lower for general comfort and safety.

So, anyone have ideas about why this bird hang out on the seed catcher? Not always, but probably half the time she's out of her cage. She also seems quite fearless in general.

Thanks so much.

I think that'll keep changing. Some people like to sit on sofas, some like chairs, others like the floor. Same with our fids.

Maybe there is something going on at that level that he like to listen to or see, i.e. is his cage in eyeshot of dining room or living room or desk where the seed catcher it the same height as people's heads when they are sitting, talking, eating? or maybe the tv, or a window, or he just plain old likes it there. Pritti picks places for a while as his hang out then switches it up every now and again for a while.

Hi WannaBe,

Thanks for the reassurance. The only thing she can see better from that vantage is the bottom of the fish tank (around the corner). The fish do hang out lower than higher most of the day. You've prompted me to start keeping records of her life/behavior so I can be more accurate if something changes and I have to provide info for a vet.

Again, thank you :)

I've come into the room a couple times to find my Bandit sleeping upside down on the inside top of his cage. I asked a few people about it including my avian vet and nobody seemed worried. I guess they just like the random hangout spots lol.

Bandit -- Pritti has snoozed in so many crazy places over the years. As long as they feel safe where they are, they'll be able to nap, haha.
