Poppy - Crimson Bellied Conure
Hi everyone, I am not sure if this is normal or not but Poppy absolutely loathes getting put back in her cage and will try her best to fly on my shoulder, when inside she will bite the bars and squeak. When I open the cage door when I get in from work she will fly onto me and she´ll be calm and happy, she loves cuddles.

She´s desperate to get out her cage

Is this normal, she is nearly 2 months old.

Valentino - Red Fronted Macaw - Hatched August 12, 2012
I think that is pretty common for baby parrots. She wants to be with you ALWAYS and the cage is baring her from being able to get to you. Valentino my RFM is the same way and he will be 8 months old on April 12. A really good example is when we are eating dinner and Valentino has to wait until we are finished in his cage he will pace on the grate back and forth while making that high pitched baby squeak at us until I take him out and share some of my veggies or give his two nuts to eat at the table with us.

During Valentino's independent play time (he is in his cage up to 6 hours a day while I am upstairs in my office working) he is fine playing with his toys, eating, drinking, and talking to himself. It is very cute to listen to him jabber to himself and for the past three weeks he has been talking quite clearly. At this time Valentino only really hates being in his cage is when I am downstairs in site of him. That is when he wants out and he wants out NOW!

With consistency and adjusting to your schedule your little friend will learn to be more comfortable in her cage. I just love her. Such a cute little parrot!

Gilbert Oliver, Blue Crown Conure; Georgie, Sun Conure (2/8/01-8/8/12) RIP little girl; Percy, budgie 1993-1999. RIP Pepito-spanish timbrado canary
Every so often when Gilbert wants to stay out but i can't have him out for some reason, he will run up my arm, around my shoulder, to my back, 'refusing' to go back. Then when i get him and put him back, he, like Valentino, runs back and forth on the floor by the door of the cage and often tears the paper on the bottom in a little 'tantrum'. He gets over it fairly quickly.
So i think your bird is being pretty 'normal' really. Gilbert does this less now than he used to, because i think he knows the routine when he goes in and that he will come back out in a little while.

Parrots vocalize in the morning and evening (which sounds like 5-10 minutes of unappreciated squawking to us, but is actually a natural behavior). She is probably seeing the first hint of daylight under her covers, so she is vocalizing to try and "get in touch" with her "flock" (you and your family). You can kind of curb the early morning wake up call by making sure she has really dark covers and that no light is entering her cage. She will still vocalize when the covers come off, but you can set the time :)

Dawn isn´t until around 7am here but I should really put a cover over her cage at night, would a towel do?

She´s still sleepy, at almost 2 months old is this normal? Or should she be playful?

Behaviour #2

I have noticed the past few days that when I am cleaning up poop with toilet paper she will expand her wings almost like flapping them and at each movement she´ll make a "MEP" is this annoyance or aggression? She will also do it when eating now, but without the wing flaps but her wings sometimes are drooped a bit when making the "MEP" when eating.

They see you swiping around more quickly with a strange object and it isn't appreciated. Many parrots don't like to be in their cages when they are being cleaned. Some get used to it, some don't.
