Yes, birds get allergies. The opening/closing of beak could just be him yawning. This occurs when the air pressure in his ears is changed, which could occur when you rub the area around his ears.

If in doubt, take him to an avian vet.

If he keeps sneezing and there is discharge he would need to see the vet.
Birds can have allergies they are also sensitive to dry air in homes at this time of year.
I recently took my amazon in for this was the case.

Hi duckmuffin yes I agree it could be allergies, but to be safe it is best to take your bird to a avian vet. I don't believe in trying to guess when it comes to their health. Waiting could be a bad decision. Birds can crash so quickly and die. Don't want to scare you but a ounce of prevention......... Good luck!

I once read that discharge from the nostrils is something you don't want to wait out because it could be a sign of something much worse going on inside. I'd hit the vet just to be safe.

My sun and my zon have been sneezing. And had snot blow out when they did... The vet said all is fine... But i might consider more humidity.. As in a humidifier...

94lt1's mention of humidifiers made me wonder if people realize that humidifiers need to be taken apart & thoroughly cleaned & checked for possible mold growth.....this includes portable humidifiers, whole house units tied into heating & air systems or tabletop vaporizers.....if mold growth is found in a whole house system, it's duct-work should be checked also.....as air is drawn into a unit (whatever kind, it also brings in organic material, dead skin cells especially, that feeds mold growth.....if you don't know how to check for and/or clean mold, find someone to help you or find & hire a professional.....

Very true... Mold growth plus parrot usually equals mold, minus parrot.... Our house was just built 5 years ago this may, and we've already had a mold problem.... Down in Southeast TX.. All sorts of crap can grow inside your ac units..
