Crimson bellied conure, Mikau
hello everyone! I am the proud owner of a crimson bellied conure but im running into some possible behavioral problems I'd like to start correcting.
So the issue is my bird has never really been all the cuddly. Occasionally he would let me pet him but only on his own terms. well now he absolutely loves to get his head and cheeks rubbed. he rubs his head all over and between my fingers and loves to be petted but when I have to put him away ( we have cats and his cage is in my den with the door closed ) he immediately starts screeching and calling for me and does it all day non stop. I don't know what to do here and I really need some advice.

His behavior is understandable and there a lot of threads on here that deal with exactly this issue.

He is calling out to you because he cannot see you. You need to be sure not to respond to the screeching in anyway. Not verbal or physical. Any reaction will only reinforce this behavior. We can however try to reinforce the noises you find acceptable. So if he calls out in a sound that you like, make sure to respond back. This will not totally stop the screeching, but will reinforce the good behavior (in our own opinions of course) while showing the 'bad' behavior will not got him what he wants.

Many members on this forum have stated they say something in particular to their birds when they leave the room each time to keep them calm and content.
