I got a one year and four month old green cheek conure yesterday. He will not let me touch him without biting me. What are some tips on building the trust between us? He will take treats out of my hand, but I cannot touch him. :rainbow1:

I got a 2 year old green cheek a few months ago. At first he would just bite me when I came around, but after a week or 2 he would sit on my finger. He still nips me whenever I try to pick him up or pet him when he doesnt want me too, but you will have to let him adjust to you for a bit. Also are his wings clipped? if he tries to get away from you and you chase him he will think you are a predator. I hope this helped a bit

Like ILC said, be patient, your new GCC is in a new home he is not familiar with and does not know you.....if your bird came from another home, he will be used to the sights and sounds of that home and will need to get used to yours, birds are not like puppies or kittens, you can't give them some food and scratch a bird behind the ears & expect them to jump in your lap for more.....it may take a few days or several weeks or even longer, but usually a couple of weeks brings them around.....

Thank you both for your advice. I have been doing research on them for a long time now. But doing the research and actually owning one are two differrent things. I am being very patient with him. He is coming out of his cage now and taking treats from me. He loves to chirp and squeak. I won't be giving up on him. :)

Don't say you're coming home at 10, then never call to say you're staying out late. Dont ever introduce him as "your friend" when you see another GCC. And never ever let him catch you looking at other birds online. Hope that helps.
