Green Cheeked Friend???

Hi All,
I'm new here, but it seemed like a great place to ask questions. My husband and I have a Green Cheeked Conure that is an absolute doll. Recently, we have been contacted about the possibility of fostering and/or adopting a Sun Conure, if his owners cannot be located. My question is, what's the likelihood that our green cheek and a sun conure would get along? Our green cheek has a cage that's appx. 3'x3' and 4' tall. So, I think that would be enough room for both of them. What are your thoughts? Thanks for the input.

While one can't say they will or won't get alone, you'll definitely need a second cage. Putting two strangers in the same cage is quite likely going to result in bloodshed.

My parents did that with budgies, when I was a child; it was horrific.

Re: Green Cheeked Friend???

Grenage is right, second cage for the sun, especially if it will be a foster.....

While different specied birds do pair up together in companion/captive situations and though there is some natural crossbreeding, you don't just put a couple of strangers in a cage together.....if they choose, after interaction on their own, to be caged together, one usually begins hanging out in the other's cage, but it needs to be their choice.....

Even in the case that they do get along after several months of observation, I'd recommend not ever housing them in the same cage. On occasion birds to pester each other and get on each other nerves and little spats are likely to break out. One day you're likely to come home to a severely injured if not dead Green Cheek.

Definately get a second cage for the newcomer, and see how they interact. They might move in together on their own, but if not then they'll need their own space.

Re: Green Cheeked Friend???

Thanks for the input from everyone. I guess I wasn't 100% clear. I would never just throw them together without months of introductory time, but I understand why it may have sounded like that. Anyway, I am hopeful that they will find his/her family. If not, we'll let the conures choose their housing arrangements.
