Tangie; My beloved Sun Conure who passed away in May 2013
Hello, I'm new to the forums, having joined thjs morning. A couple days ago, I got a seven year old female Sun Conure. I got her from a woman that said Tangie's mate had died, as well as the lady's husband. She gave me Tangie and her cage for only 100$. She was very intearctive on the first two days. On the third night, I clipped her wings because I didn't want her getting startled, and then fly into a window or something.

The next morning she wouldn't listen to my Step up commands, and would refuse to exit her cage. She would willingly accept treats and tickles from my hand though. I don't know if it was a mistake to change her cage, but the problem wasn't fixed. I tried making her step up onto a perch, but she attacked it. I even tried making her step up onto one of my family member's hand, but she atacked them too. It seems that I'm the only one who she doesn't attack. Today, I somehow got her out, and she's perched on my shoulder, kissing and preening my hair and face. But, as soon as I ask her to get off, she squacks and nips me. Any ideas for solutions on these problems?

And sorry if this thread is on the wrong forum area. :(

Start target training her and look into positive reinforcement. Sounds like she's not happy that you clipped her wings, but then some birds are nicer before they settle in.

You've only had her a few days so what's not to say she wouldn't be acting this way even if you hadn't trimmed her wings. Just take your time and use some positive reinforcement by rewarding the good things she does and ignore the negative. Having only had her a few days, I would not allow her on your shoulder as of yet. Saddly, you'll likely find that if you suddenly begin to prevent her from being on your shoulder she'll begin given you problems. This is just one of those things where you need to begin with solid training before allowing privileges like being on your shoulder, etc! Not only do new birds need solid training but so do new bird owners. We ALL continually learn what to and what not to do on a continual basis. Good luck. Time and patience will help but no bird is perfect...except mine! LOL
