Hey guys! After a few posts about touch training, I decided to try it! My five month old Sun Conure, Lukah, that I've had for just a little over a week now and I have been struggling to get along. The touch training has worked amazingly. For him and I. And I just started a couple hours ago! I've been doing it in ten minute training intervals and using either seeds or apple (his absolute favorite) as reward. I've gotten him to where he doesn't bite the end of the stick, but rubs his beak on it to get a treat, and just now he put his foot on it, so I rewarded that. I accompany each treat with a tongue cluck. I'm figuring eventually he will step onto my finger for it.
It's really helping not only him, but me as well! I've been upset lately trying to figure out ways to bond with him when he doesnt feel like being anywhere near me. Being distracted by the treats and touch stick, he will get close to me without getting defensive.
If you're struggling with your feathered friend, TRY THIS.
