Greetings, I recently became the proud owner of a Nanday Conure. Prior to I'd not had a bird in years. I and my family welcomed the bird and are happy to have such a bird part of our family.

Ive done quite a bit of reading and research. Nanny (The bird) is great and for the most part tame. My concern is she's not very active, or loud. She only squawks when you try touching her outside of her cage. She rarely plays in her cage with her toys. She'll sit perched up for hours in the living room or other rooms and just observe. I mean Im not complaing that shes quiet I just want to make sure Im not doing something wrong. We've had her now a lil less than a month. Ideas? Thoughts?

Will post pics soon. :green2:

Maybe she's a mellow bird. Does she eat a lot?

Nandays tend to be noisy and hyperactive though so I can see your concern. How is her cage set up and where is it located? If she perches constantly, make sure you give her natural perches and not dowel. This is to at least make her more comfortable.

Thank you. She does eat quite a bit and takes fresh fruits from my hand. A natural perch? Such as a manzanita perch? Ill be moving her into a bigger cage just as soon as I can get one. The cage she was sent home with is the same one she's in still. We do get her out quite a bit and let her spend time out of the cage. She jut sits and stares at us.

Thanks again. Look forward to being more active in the forums and getting to know about other members birds.

Sylvarie Jenday Conure
Sylvarie is the same way he will sit and watch for hours at a time unless someone takes him out of the cage or i am in a bad mood then he comes out on his own to snuggle with me. the only time he gets loud is when my wife is making a whining noise or my son tries to sneak into my room. that's a riot.

I'm half wondering if this is Nanny, the conure located in Oregon that was/is up for adoption via a bird rescue... and she's not really a nanday, but a hybrid.

She may not be doing much because it's all new to her and she needs time to settle in, or perhaps she doesn't currently know how to play and interact within her own environment.
