I am getting a baby GCC in a week and am wondering if the play gym I used for my lorikeet would be suitable? see Pic below.

My lorikeet loved the play gym and was able to climb all over it, using vertical ropes where there are no branches. I'm not sure if a GCC could do this.

OOPS. cant get the image of the play gym to paste. It is in an album in my profile, if you could check that.

Of particular concern are:

1. A lot of the videos I've seen show GCCs playing on flat surfaces and perhaps I need a play gym with some flat shelves??

2. Re ladders. How steep a ladder could a conure climb?

I'm hoping the GCC will be spending 3-5 hours a day on the play gym, with a cage beside it.

Thank you for your help,

Wendy

My conures are little monkeys, flat surfaces are their least favourite, if they can hang from it or use their little claws to climb it they will. My climb curtains, up peoples legs if they're wearing pants, so I wouldn't worry about that side of things.
Only concern is what's happened to your lorikeet? Make sure you disinfect it properly and all that jazz.

That looks like an awesome play gym!!! My GCC also LOVES to climb but I think I am his play gym. I can't do anything without him hanging off me somewhere.

Conures seem to love those rope perches, so the more of those the merrier.

Thank you all for your advice. I'll stick with the play gym I have, add a rope boing and some foraging and shredding toys.

Sadly my lorikeet died in an accident. She had been tested for all the nasties at her first vet check up, so I think it is safe to reuse her cages and gym.
