Both of our green cheeks have started to scream since we moved last week. They begin to scream the second we leave their sight. This has not been an issue in the past. One of them is a great talker and her way of calling us used to be "Hey cutie" or "Come here." Now it's as if she's regressed and just peeps/screams in order to get our attention. We ignore this behavior (wait until they are quit to answer them or re-enter the room) but the peeping continues for 10 or 20 minutes at a time and reoccurs every time we step out for even a second. I am worried that our new neighbors will complain about the noise. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Note: We spend several hours each day with the birds and they get plenty of attention and out of cage time. That has not changed.

Get in the habit of telling the you're going to the bedroom, garage, bathroom, wherever and that you will be right back or will be back in a few minutes.....

I can't remember when any of mine has screamed because I was out of their sight, unless they think I'm leaving the house, but telling them I'm going to work or to the store, etc., usually works.....

You're right about the move...it's just insecurity, they're not yet comfortable with their new surroundings.....not only are the surroundings new, but so are the sounds/noises.....several years ago I was working with 4 young sun conures that were essentially wild...they were parent raised & had never been handled...all I had to do was get up from the sofa & go to my desk & the gang of four would start screaming.....

I started talking just above a whisper to all of them...whenever anybody raised their voice, they had to shut up to hear what I was saying & since conures all want attention, it got to where everybody would go quiet to listen to what I said & if they didn't, my patty screamed at them until they quieted down...sounds silly, but it worked.....those 4 suns took me over a year to get them to where anybody could handle them, but then you have to realize that we were not a routine household...sometimes I'd be gone for several days to several weeks and in several cases, several months.....

Good luck.....

Thank you for your advice, Weco. It has helped a great deal. It has been just over a week since the move, and the birds are doing much better :)

I tell my Bird Every time I leave the room he is in to "Be Good". He knows than that we will be coming back and won't leave him. It works for the most part, he knows my wife and I will be back.
