I got a flea problem in my apartment. I need to bomb, there is no ways around it.

I am asking for advice! I have tried the all natural route and it has failed me. I have used Sentry Guard and Comfortis for my cats and while I am sure they are not being bit, the flea's are still on them.

I have been vacuuming like a religion, and even sprayed my couch, bed, and rugs with an IGR (Insect Growth Regulator). For the most part I believe they are flea free, but I think it's the other part of my basement apartment that needs the flea bombs.

I already know to remove the bird out of the area. I am going to take my bird to the third floor of the home. There is no way a bomb can reach up there. So he will be safe, plus I can leave the BIG door open for him to have fresh air.

How long do I need to leave my bird up in the safe zone before I can bring him back down? I already know to remove my cats and any food. So any bird food and everything the bird uses will be upstairs. Thanks for the help.

Any advice on what's a good brand to buy? I might go with a fogger, being it will stay low to the ground and not creep up high. I believe the carpet is the real issue, even thou I sprinkled Diatomaceous earth all around.

Have you not tried Frontline Plus??? That is the stuff that saved me from fleas as they were everywhere....Within a week most fleas were gone, within a month all fleas disappeared...I've tried the natural remedy and no they don't work....I would worry about the chemical residue left behind with the fogger as it recirculates in your air system....

Baron, because you will be using a bomb(s) you will need to completely wash & thoroughly rinse his cage, toys & anything else that is in the cage, if you don't remove it from the area to be treated.....you will also need to thoroughly wash and rinse any surface that the bird will come in contact with/climb on/over, before you bring him back down, because of the residue coating left by the bomb(s)...and since those things don't get the fleas that have not yet hatched, one application is not going to solve your problem.....years ago when I last used any bombs, I did 3 treatments, each a week later than the previous & I left my then 3 birds out of the house for a week after the last treatment, but not until I hired two of my employee's wives to do a through wash down of everything in the house.....

As to the IGRs, if the offer a warranty, I might try getting my $$$ back.

When you first asked, you were given solutions that have worked for some of us here.....and if you are not emptying your vacuum, the adult fleas are crawling out & feeding again.....and laying new eggs.....

Another thing I used to do years ago was I cut up flea collars and place pieces of them under the couch and numerous areas and I got rid of the fleas that way. We were living out in the country side and I guess we brought the fleas along when we moved. I was watching someone else's dog who was covered with fleas and she was the one that brought fleas to my dogs. I was living in SD at the time and we get harsh winter and it kills most of them outside as I never encounter fleas again after I got rid of them with flea bath and flea collars underneath furnitures. And I kept using flea comb on a daily basis several times per day and I got rid of all fleas....I'm kinda OCD that way....lol

But where I live now, stray dogs comes around, neighbor dogs are out and about, stray cats and all the other wild critters. Must treat with flea meds here monthly basis cause they always come back. I just got my 12 month supply in a mail order yesterday so I'm good for rest of the year....

It might be a good idea to seal off any HVAC vents in the room you're fogging/bombing too. If the 3rd floor has vents in it, the system could draw the chemical through the system and circulate it throughout the entire house, includng the 3rd floor.

I personally would remove EVERYTHING pet/bird related to the great outdoors and/or the garage.

Bird is out of the area and all of his toy's, food, and cages our out. He is outside on the deck. On the third floor deck. A long with my other animals. My fish tank is covered up. There is no vent in the room he is in, that's why we hardly ever used the room but for a guest room if needed. Always too hot or cold.

I have done everything, but I don't think you understand the size of my basement. It's hard to make sure I get everything. So this is the only way. I have emptied the vacuum every single time I vacuumed. I cleaned the area's, I still have flea's in the area's that are hard to get too. So a flea fogger will get to the effected area's better. This is the stuff that will stick low to the ground. This is what I need more than a bomb. So I will let you all know how it goes, after I am finished. Thanks for the help.

Well, I am finished and so far so good. No flea's crawling on me, but it's only been 30 minutes. I used a Fogger that both kills the flea's and has the IGR in it.

I think the other stuff is working because when I am in the apartment area, I don't get flea's crawling on me from the couch or bed I sprayed the IGR on.

I fogged the area and left it for the two hours it said on the box. I than opened all the windows down here to air it out for another 2 hours. No smell and things seem fine with my fish tank. No issues to report, so I am happy the cover seemed to work well. I used an old motorcycle cover, plus tarp. The Bird and Cats were upstairs on what would be our fourth floor with no vents and the big screen door open. I was watching TV near the area I bombed and smelled nothing past the door I closed. I just bombed the basement as the upstairs is all hard wood and was already treated with an IGR and flea killer two weeks ago. No flea's up there! I didn't want to reinfect that area.

Anyway, I will let you all know if things work out. I need to go give my cats a wash before I let them back down here. :p

we just discovered my daughters room is full of fleas late this afternoon. she has 5 guinea pigs in there.
Needless to say every cage was full of fleas,100's & 100's of them, and in the carpet etc....
We removed all the animals and cages, and vacuumed.
we used Zodiak spray on the carpet and I have to say it kills them on contact.

We have shampoo'd the guinea pigs with a special shampoo which contains .05% pymethrin, and rinsed them. In the mean time while they were wrapped up in towels keeping warm, we scrubbed and cleaned all 5 cages.
then we sprayed the cages with A.I.L. which also contains pymethrin, and let it dry.
they were put into a different room for the night.

Tomorrow we finish the room. it took us 5 hours from start to finish.
