Bertie, scaley breasted lorikeet, 2007-2013, still miss you, chick. Cheeky, yellow sided green-cheeked conure, 2013-
My new GCC, weaned two weeks ago and been with me for 12 days, seems to spend around 80-90% of the days eating. This doesn't leave a lot of time for interaction, play and training, and Im wondering if it is normal.

He has a couple of tablespoons of chopped veggies and a smaller plate of fruit put out each morning, which he eats at the table with us. He has seeds and veggies available for the day. He loves his seeds but goes back and snacks on the veggies from time to time. Most of the time he spends on his play gym, he spends eating seeds and goes straight to his seeds whenever he gets onto the gym, which is right next to his cage.

Is this normal, or will he spend less time eating as he gets older?

Conures have a very healthy appetite, they eat a lot!....so do budgies.

Since he is young, he is eating what his body requires.

As long as his poop is normal and his behaviour is fine, then I wouldn't worry.

you could hold healthy treats in your hand so he will come to you to eat
