How can I find fellow parrot owners in my area?

I have an adorable GCC named Ducky. We live in Fenway, Boston. She's totally attached to me and when I'm home does everything with me. But she can be nippy. It doesn't bother me because I can deal with it and she doesn't do it on purpose - she just likes to put her beak on everything! And she can be protective of her house too, so when she's in her cage, she doesn't like hands going in there, especially stranger hands.

So, anyway - I will be going on vacation in a few months, and I have been looking, but cannot find a pet sitter in my area that has an experience dealing with birds. I've tried Yelp and the PSI. Is there a place or website where I can go to find bird owners in my area? I would be happy to swap pet sitting responsibilities. I just need to find the right person with the right personality to watch my babies (I have a very shy sweet kitty too).

Thanks for any leads :)

I don't have a specific answer to your primary question but--do you plan to leave your birds at a boarding facility or do you want someone to come and check on them in your home? If i can't bring my birds somewhere, i normally have them home and have a relative/friend checking on them. Your avian vet may also have references for places you could board your bird. AND if it is somewhere you can take the birds with you on vacation, I have found them to have a surprisingly good time travelling (my birds anyhow).

You could try calling nearby vets and see it THEY know of any in-home sitters, or if you could pin something on their wall in those regards. :)

Hi,

Thanks for your reply! I'm actually going overseas or I would consider taking her with me.

I would prefer someone come to visit. I wouldn't want to stress her out by taking her to a boarding place. I don't really know anyone in my area (or have family) who would be able to check on her. I do have a pet sitter who lives right down the street, but she has no experience with birds and I would worry so much. Also, my pet sitter is boysterous and bubbly (a sweet girl, but a kind of all over the place and she doesn't listen too well). My kitty is so shy and preferred the previous pet sitter because she had a soft demeanor, but my old sitter can't come around anymore. So all is not lost if I cannot find anyone. But it would be nice to have a friend who I can swap pet sitting duties with. I would be happy to watch their babies while they are away also.
