Should I get a bird hammock?

Hey! I've been looking at triangle bird hammocks and I'm starting to want to get my little guy one really bad. When he sleeps he sometimes has nightmares and falls or will lose balance and wake up and I feel like he would like sleeping in one... maybe!

A few questions....

1. Does anyone have parrot hammocks and have they been a good experience or a bad?

2. Do they often poop in the hammocks? I'm worried it could be a lot of maintenance.

3. I've heard they're a bad idea because birds can get caught in stray strings and end up hurt?

4. His cage isn't small, but it's definitely packed (it's not a flight cage) so I'm a little worried about room. Could I put his hammock above a water dish? Since it's not like a perch where he could sit on it and poop into the dish? Could I just put his hammock in at night so he knows its time to go to bed?

Thanks guys!

I had a Green cheek conure and bought him a "Sleepy Teepee". He adored it and it was hilarious to peek your head in his cage while he was sleeping because you would just see tail feathers poking out. He really loved that thing but then again every bird is different!

It was just like this! http://www.aussiebirdtoys.com/images/sz00103.jpg

And no, I never cleaned poop out of it... I washed it occasionally but just to keep it fresh for him. :)

Jacob a sun conure who found me!
My bird has a soft carrier that he likes sleeping in (I am looking at the sleepy birdy tent too cause of this), and mind you he NEVER poops in there.. He was in it over night last night and no poop from 11.00 PM to 6.30 AM, so I think that yours won't either depending a little bit on how he is trained maybe? mine has 2-3 poopie spots in the cage/house and I have encouraged that a lot.. So I don't think that will be a lot of maintanance..

I made lovely designer snuggle beds for my lovebirds and the little darlings took to them immediately. So cute! Little heads would peek out and look at me and before I knew it the hormonal little #%&((*^%4b had laid *eggs* in the darned beds! Welcome to my nightmare. Now, I've had to provide proper nest boxes and wait to see if anything hatches. I would never ever use snuggle beds again after this experience.

Having said that, I have seen a kind of snuggler that's designed for the bird to snuggle into on his perch: it's more like a wrap-around affair with no bottom. Might make one of those one day and see what happens. At least it won't contain eggies!

All my GCCs have the triangular kind that has a perch and an open bottom (this way the poop falls to the bottom of the cage) and they love it!

I removed the one for my conure soon after I got her because she ignored it completely and it was just wasted space. The funny thing is when I got her, her bio stated that she loved sleeping in her hammock, but she never did with me. She sleeps on a rope perch, and I use the space for more toys. Plus I don't want her laying an egg, I'm a little paranoid about that.

Fiji and Sundance LOVE their sleep tent. I got it from Dr. Foster & Smith. its the triangle kind, size medium. That size would be perfect for one sun conure, or 2 GCCs. They love to snuggle in it, and NEVER poop in there. Im not really worried about eggs, since they are both boys. I originally had the kind with the perch, but they would never use it so I took it out.

Go ahead and get one, he will probably love it!

I purchased one from the website below and it only took one day and my Sun Conure was sleeping in it. He puts himself to sleep around 7:00pm at night and every once in awhile during the day he'll go in and take a quick nap. I never dreamed he'd sleep in it but he absolutely loves it.

It is 8 inches long, 5 inches tall and about 3 inches wide. I hung it next to the front and side to get it out of the way of all his toys and I put a perch behind it so that it was easy for him to get in and out. Also he has never pooped in it. I examine it often to make sure there are no strings he could get caught on but this one is made so well that no damage has happened so far and he plays with it a lot.

I have a great picture of him in his tent but I guess I can't figure out how to upload it sorry.

Yes get one for your Conure! :p

I got this one:

[ame=http://www.amazon.com/Multipet-Happy-Assorted-Yellow-Colors/dp/B0017JASSW/ref=sr_1_sc_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1375285080&sr=8-2-spell&keywords=happu+hut]Amazon.com: Multipet Happy Hut Plush Cage Hut for Birds, Assorted Green, Grey and Yellow Colors: Pet Supplies[/ame]

I was a little worried at first because some of the reviews have stories about birds feet getting caught in it and being chewed off by the bird itself. :-/ I bought this for my bird while he was being held at the pet store for three months so I could pay him off. The staff told me the first night I put it in he was sleeping in it. I brought it home (Of course) and I think it helped him transition easier. He had something he was sleeping in at the pet store at his new home!

It's been a while now and no issues with the tent, he never poops on it or in it. I have the hut on the left front corner of the cage and at night I will cover the cage up but leave that cover open so the back of the hut will still be open for him while we watch TV. I catch him with this head resting on it watching TV with us all the time! When we are done I cover the cage completely and he turns around and goes to sleep. Not a peep out of him until we life the cage cover! I think it's because of the cover and the hut! He loves his hut!

I have a sun and a green cheek and before having to separate them because I thought the GCC was plucking the sun I managed to catch one cute moment between the two and their tent lol ImageUploadedByTapatalk1376075356.825177.jpg
They would both crawl in the thing at the same time haha and they rarely ever pooped in there but the GCC has chewed the flooring off of it to lol in his destructo stage a few months back... Looking at getting them each their own now

It is great to read all these positive reports on hammocks/tents! Has helped me decide to purchase a happy hut for my not-yet-born GCC (I'm going to have so much 'stuff' and no bird! LOL) I decided to get the green one because I also read somewhere that they are more likely to use it if it has similar colouring to them?!?

My PGCC has just a happy hut that she sleeps in and doesn't poop inside at all. Just waits till morning as I tell her "good morning pretty bird" then she does her buisness.

I have the small happy hut because I only have on sun and the medium looked waaay too big. He will go in it, but he doesn't seem to trust it yet.... does anyone else have the small or should I return it and get a medium?
