I'm new to conures, but definitely not new to parrot-keeping. I've kept small parrots for over half my life. Never had an issue with a feather chewer til now! My GCC, SweetCheeks, has just decided that the ALL the feathers on his/her chest were so tasty, s/he chewed them ALL! His/her chest is covered in down, not bald, so it's a chewing, not a plucking, problem. It started immediately after I bought a cuddle corner. At first, it looked like the feathers were just ruffled, and this bird is a cuddler, so I thought nothing of it. The cage is full of toys and fun stuff, and I even have put in chew-toys. Is there another way to keep him/her from always looking grey in front?
I've had Cheeks since late March, and s/he has been a hoot ever since! Cheeks is even trying to learn to talk. The pet shop I purchased him/her from wasn't sure about age, only knew the conures they had at that time were "very young." This bird spends very little time in its cage -- only when I'm at work and asleep!
I read a little bit in the archives about someone having a similar problem, but there was no resolution... Any other suggestions?
