Percy the yellow-sided GCC and his sidekick, Peanut, a green-yellow parakeet.
Hello! I just joined the forum and this is my first post...

I'm researching and preparing everything in advance before I purchase my Green Cheek Conure. I have a basic understanding on the dietary needs Conures have, including a variety of seeds/pellets, fresh fruits, vegetables, and proteins. However, I am confused or unsure of which seed/pellet/or dry mix is best to purchase. I tried searching the forum for information but was a little overwhelmed. Should I be buying a few types of foods and mixing them? I was looking at the following...

ZuPreem Fruitblend Bird Foods: ZuPreem AvianMaintenance FruitBlend bird food for Parrots and Conures

Drs Foster & Smith Parrot Premium Blend with Omega 3
Parrot Food: Drs. Foster and Smith Parrot Premium Blend with Omega-3s

ZuPreem Natural Premium Daily Bird Food for Medium/Large Birds ZuPreem Natural Premium Daily Bird Food for Medium/Large Birds

Kaytee Fiesta Max Conure FoodBird food: Kaytee Fiesta Conure food from Drs. Foster & Smith

There are so many different foods out there. I heard to limit the amount of sunflower seeds as they are high in fat and lack any significant nutritional value. Any suggestions on which food/foods to purchase? I will obviously supplement with fresh fruits and vegetables (excluding avocado, parsley, chocolate, etc). PS - I have some basic avian knowledge, having had cockatiels as a child.

Any advice and info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the links! I saw some of your replies there too. So, what propertions of TOPS, ZuPreem Natural, and Golden'olbes would you recommend mixing together for a GCC? Is the mix attractive enough or appetizing despite its lack of colorfulness? Would you keep it separate from freshly cut fruits and vegetables?

My conure won't eat the Zupreem natural. He will eat the Zupreem fruit pellets (except banana). So i feed that with Roudybush crumbles and I toss in a few seeds. i also feed some fruits and veggies

No, no...I don't buy Gold'n Orbles, I buy Goldenfeast MIXES. For a conure I'd think you could get one or two of their mixes for medium sized parrots, perhaps a pound each, and then mix 1 pound of TOPs and one pound of Zupreem Natural under there.

Awesome. Still so much to learn... here I was thinking at each mealtime mixing a little of this and a little of that instead of pounds of this stuff at a time. Sounds so much easier!! Guess I just have to learn my conure's preferences and see what s/he doesn't eat and go from there. You've been a big help, thank you!!
