Jacob a sun conure who found me!
Ok, so I have heard about all the screaming conures do in the morning and evening. Jacob has yet to really do it, as long as his blanket is on he has never screamed yet... Once the blanket comes off he will screech for a couple of seconds, then he runs and eats his breakfast and that's that.. (yes I am very grateful for this). However, now he will sit and talk to himself, he will do the laugh he learned from me, and if any of my favorite shows are on (I've been sick this week and he has gotten late mornings while I watch a show or two before I get out of bed) he will laugh where the people laugh and where I normally laugh. He will also say Jacob to himself and other random chitter chatter that I cant dechifer, I think he's practicing. Is this common? I find it cute and its not bothering me at all, quite the contrary his little mumbles are very comforting. But after hearing about everyone elses screaming birds I wonder if mine is normal? lol he has also started playing with his toys a lot more now when he hasn't had a choice, I hear him chew on his chew toys, and ring the bell.. It's adorable.. <3

He's settling in nicely and yes.it is very normal. Not all birdies scream but they are capable LOL.
He sounds very happy. Both our birds are quiet till the covers come off and our African brown head talks and chatters and whistles up a storm in the mornings.

Your quite lucky that Jacob prefers to chatter instead of scream. He sounds like a conure from heaven!!! :D

I have to agree Mikey, and after hearing what everyone else has said, Im like is something wrong with him? But vet gave him clean bill of health.. Today he was playing with his toy, the bell woke me up a little bit and then I passed out. and now Im moving aorund and he' sstill not screaming.. He's amazing.. But it makes me wnder soemtimes what goes on in his little head, and again, this is why I think he's an escapee as opposed to let out.. He is not a trouble maker, well except that he tries to mate with me on a daily basis..

Sandy, no he screams if he hears another conure, other birds not so much, he will talk to another conure not a problem... and then he's loud. Or if he gets really happy as when I put the dog leash on and he knows he will get to go with me, he will sqwak, but that's fine.. That is normal I wouldn't expect it in any othe rway..

Rory ~ A male turquoise green cheek conure ~ Hatched 02-12-2013
My sweet little Rory is very quite, he never screams. He also likes to chatter. I don't think it's abnormal. Each bird that their own personality. The only time mine ever get's really noisy is when I first get home and he hears my voice, and even then he just makes a noise like a dog squeaky toy or he screeches like a eagle or Hawk, But besides that he's pretty quite.

I love that he does the dog squeeky toy.. <3 you need a movie of that...
No but everyone tells me how their sun conures screams so much, so I was a tad concerned.. I love his little chatter, the days Ive been sick it has been good to focus on cause it takes my brain off the pain..

Haha, the chatter is one thing I have heard constantly around my boardroom... I have a sun and a GCC and it is true the sun is louder when she does squak but more often then not she makes this duck/geese quack/honk lol and he is consistently chittering and randomly mumbling 'hello' haha such unique personalities in these wonder pus little creatures

Last night I was the only one still up and hadn't shut off Skittles' light. As I watched TV I could hear him talk to himself but almost like he was in the library.

His usual "Hi baby" or "come here" and "step up", whistles ... pretty much everything he normally says. But, everything was a higher pitch, almost inaudibly soft. It was a tone that I would describe as "pretty".

I wish I had the ability to push a remote button to a microphone near him.

To me, it sounded like the musings of one extremely content bird.

He couldn't see me. Usually, when he is feeling lonely or insecure, he screams. When we come home he says his usual greetings ... LOUDLY. This just sounded pleasant, busy talk ... like I said, he sounded content.

Don't question it, enjoy while it lasts and, if it lasts for the rest of the bird's life, call Guinness -LOL
