The title says it all! I'm looking into getting a humidifier for Lukah, but not sure which to get. Heard positives and negatives about cool and hot ones, different brands, etc. I know that Vick's has teflon in it and not to get the warm air one from them. What ones do you guys have? Do pet stores sell them?

I got this one.

he seems to love it and it does not put out a lot of moister, just enough! Kind of cheaply made thou.

HoMedics Personal Ultrasonic Humidifier, White - Walmart.com

I wanted to get that one! seemed so cute. But I read the reviews on that one and a lot of people said it broke after about a week. How long have you had yours? How long does it usually last when filled? Have you ever accidentally let the water run out while it was running?

4 hours, yes it's cheap.

I have had mine for about 2 years. So it's all on how you take care of it. The wicks inside is what needs to be replaced. Some do break easily, it just depends I guess. I took mine back until I got one that worked right. There is a one year warranty on it.

I have 2 of these Honeywell Humidifiers.
they are easy to fill, and take care of, a bit pricey, but mine run all day during the winter time for my birds.
I also have a Honeywell Air Purifier and it is EXCELLENT!!, I finally got around to buying another one for my bird room, and the air is so much better!!

Oh my! I'm sure those are amazing but a little out of my price range haha :)

I use Holmes Cool mist humidifier. On my smart phone so can't pull up the link. But I got it from Target. So easy to refill. Simple settings. Easy to clean, no filters needed. The tank lasts 2 days on medium setting. I want to say it cost 60-75 bucks but I can't remember anymore.

It's real tough! Had it about 10 months, running all day every day.

Not to steel away from this thread, but I have a question. If you live in an area with cold winters (like ohio), is a humidifier for your fids necessary?

If you use indoor heating then IMO it is even more necessary to use a humidifier.

I would think so! Heaters and air conditioning units alike both really dry out the air. I live in Arizona so summers get to 125 degrees out so air conditioning is on 24/7 and there is probably barely any humidity in the house!

That being said, look at your birds and let them tell you. Lukah is scratching like crazy, sneezing and picking his nose with his toenail. I think a humidifier would solve all that.

Dry air can also lead to plucking and overpreening as well as bad behavior due to how uncomfortable the bird is.

So I'm thinking of getting this one Pure Guardian Ultrasonic Tabletop Humidifier : Target but am kind-of hesitant about the "silver technology" in it. Basically the inside is embedded with silver which helps to keep it germ free. However, I've read that silver particles are poisonous for humans and can cause brain damage in rats that are exposed to it. That being said, lots of stuff we use- bandages, toilet seats and washing machines being among these.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this or own a germ guardian?

IF you live somewhere really dry, a humidifier really helps, there are the humidity gauge thing you can buy, usually combined with a thermometer and other meter things. Check your levels first before purchasing a humidifier.

Chasy, that thread is a couple of years old, but as long as you have a humidifier from a reputable manufacturer & have not found any derogatory notices about your model, you shouldn't have any problems as long as you clean & sanitize your humidifier on a weekly or bi-weekly basis as they will breed mold if they're not cleaned...follow the manufacturer's recommendations on cleaning the filters.....

Good luck.....
