So I have been extremely busy with work and other things that have required me to be away from home/Iago. Within the past week he doesn't want to come out of his cage anymore and seems to resent me. The only time he ever comes out now is when strangers are over and he wants to check them out/attack them.

Could this be from a lack of attention? I'm trying really hard to give him as much attention as possible but it is really hard under the current circumstances. Re-homing him has crossed my mind because I don't feel it is fair to either of us in this situation and all I want is for him to be happy. At the same time it would absolutely crush me to give him up. He is almost 4 years old now so I don't think it is strictly hormones.

Any ideas on how to fix this behavior or any advice?

He's acting out from the change of routine and minimized interaction from what he was used to. I would try to get it back to or close to how he had it. Get him more foraging toys (filled with shredded paper and nuts he likes) to ward off boredom. I made a music playlist consisting of bird/nature/classical music and leave it playing for him. I leave for work at 7:30 am and get back home at 5:30 pm, my bird seems to be used to that (so far). When you get home, just let him out and let him follow you around while you do your chores so you can get things done and he gets to spend some time with you.

I'll be honest though and say that even with 3-4 hours out of cage on weekdays and all day weekends , I still wonder if its enough. But you just have to do what you can and hope that the bird acclimates to your routine.

Thanks for the advice BoomBoom. One thing that is hard is there is absolutely no routine with my work schedule. I get to work anywhere between 5:30 and 7:30 and can get home anywhere between 4 and sometimes as late as 11. I'll do my best to try to keep as regular of a routine as possible.
