Good Idea?? Or not?

I was wondering if an Idea that popped into my head would be a good one.

I have cats and I was buying a cat enclosure for them to go in and out but not roam around. They are inside only cats, but I thought they would love the outdoors. They would have a tube that runs from a window to the enclosure, so they could go in and out as they please

My question is what if I did something like that for my Conure?

They have outdoor bird cages, but would it be wise to have a set up like that for our little guy?

This sounds absolutely awesome to me. If you do end up making it/doing it please post picture (both during the process and after)! If yours works out, I might do the same thing when I buy my house!

It would be my own home and it won't be for a LONG time from now. I was just going though outdoor aviaries that this website has a banner too. That same website has outdoor cat enclosures as well. I was looking and I saw the tunnel system they had hooked up for the cats and wondered why it couldn't work for birds as well.

I think it's a neat Idea, my only worry is where my home would be. Being I have not bought one yet I am no where close to be able to pull this off. I would also be worried about someone stealing my bird as I know people like to do that. So there is pro's and con's. I will have to think about it, but wondered if anyone else thought about doing something like this. Naturally there would be times I would close it up so he could only stay inside, but for the most part I would allow him free range of the cage.

What an awesome idea! I have a very big (12m x 6m) roofed deck out the back of my place so I am able to roll my cage out there and know that my bird is relatively safe. I do not leave it out there if I'm not home though as I do worry about wild birds - we get quite a few indian minor birds on the deck at times! I like to be able to monitor that they aren't sitting on the cage etc but love that I am able to give my birdie outside time!

I've seen people attach aviaries to a window of their home and build an aviary or large cage as an "add on" to the house with at least one entrance being a window, if not a door as well.

Before Lara Joseph moved, she had turned her entire backyard into an aviary! Birds could fly in and out via a window if they wanted to! She has since moved and built an aviary!!!

And you can see another one that was custom built (by a cage/aviary company) and attached to one homeowners home!

When I was looking at apartments with balcony's I was always fantasizing about putting something up to make it into a little aviary for Oliver that we could both hangout in. That would just be so cool!
