Question Incubator to fit a GCC egg?

So, after months of talking it through me and my fiance decided to get a mate for my birdie. We are doing extensive research into breeding and i cannot figure out which Incubator would fit the egg correctly..
What are your suggestions as to which incubator?
I would like one that i can adjust temp and humidity and that will turn the eggs aswell.

Re: Incubator to fit a GCC egg?

Why do you want to get a mate for your bird? And why are you looking into getting an incubator? If you want to breed and raise green cheeks, you can allow the parents to incubate the eggs. At least, that's what they do in the wild.

Do you have hand feeding experience? Can you feed chicks every 4 hours throughout the day and night? Do you have a breeder and avian vet on hand who can help you out in case an emergency arises?

I don't know what your experiences are, so I'm asking to find out more.

Re: Incubator to fit a GCC egg?

I have experience with birds, I've worked in a petstore hand feeding babies from budgies to African greys. I also have experience feeding mice, rabbits and rats when they were too young to be weaned from their mother, ( mice have to be fed every 2 hours so i have the will power to get up any time at night) I do have a avian vet I can go to, he is a family friend as well and I'm also going to start schooling in order to become a avian vet.
Currently I'm helping out with bird projects with my vet and my fiancÚ began to open the
idea of mating my bird, I was reluctant but now I feel confident.. I want to provide people with great birds and proper information to taking care of such a great species.
When I finish with veterinary course, I plan on opening a clinic.

I may be asking a lot of questions, but every bit of information I get, simple or intricate will better help me to become a great avian vet and reach my true potential.

Re: Incubator to fit a GCC egg?

Why would you want to incubate the eggs with an incubator when you have the pair? I don't get it....

Re: Incubator to fit a GCC egg?

A incubator is necessary if the conures aren't taking care of their clutch.
Lots of reasons I want to be prepared for.

Re: Incubator to fit a GCC egg?

A incubator is good to have yes! BUT before you get into all that (as incubators can be very expensive!!!!), you need to see if they would even mate. IF they do mate, are they even fertile??? Sometimes you can get infertile parents and you'll never have any babies to raise.

Re: Incubator to fit a GCC egg?

Money is not a problem for me!
I just need to know the right incubator.

What are the chances they are infertile, and is there anyway to tell through medical examinations?

Re: Incubator to fit a GCC egg?

Thanks for the additional info!

Some things to consider.... your conure may not accept another conure as a mate. If you do end up getting a bird that gets along with Lokito and they bond and become a pair, they may no longer be pets and will fiercely defend their cage and nest from danger - you.

I don't have a suggestion for an incubator, but if you are serious about hand feeding and raising chicks, I would suggest buying an already proven pair if you still want to keep Lokito as a pet.
