So my perry (blue crown conure) he is getting a little difficult when it comes to getting him out of his cage or up onto my hand. Now he isn't biting or anything mean. He just waddles off in the other direction unless I scratch his head or tummy. Is there a way to get him to be more willing to step up?

Thanks for any and all advice!

Whenever a bird starts doing this I stop and think about why they wouldn't want to come out.

It's possible he just doesn't want to come out, maybe he needs a break from the daily activities

He doesn't enjoy his time out of his cage, even if he enjoys some things he may dislike others

I always stop and go over everything I did with Rosie, or my friends bids and think about things from their perspective.

Lukah- Sun Conure, 10 months old!
Lukah has mood swings about wanting to come out and not. It may just be that he's bored of sitting on the couch with you right now or that he's figured out a cool new way to play with one of his toys. When I first got Lu he would be out of his cage walking around, flying to the ground and climbing on the top any chance he got. Then suddenly one day he was more interested with sitting inside his cage and playing with bells and wouldn't come out or step up for anything. Took him to my parent's house last night and he was out of the cage and stepping on fingers for hours. Brought him home today and he came out with me this morning, wanted nothing to do with me in the afternoon and then was waiting for me to take him out at night.

Basically, it could be any number of reasons. The best advice I got when I posted nearly this same exact thread when Lu completely refused to come out anymore was to just leave him alone and stop trying for a while. If he gets bored enough in his cage eventually and misses hanging out with you, he will be back on your finger when he decides that. Basically, stop being needy and start playing hard to get! haha!
