Sibling

Hello, two weeks ago we bought a Jenday conure. (S)he is very firendly, tame and cuddly. (S)he is three months old. The breeder we've bought it from still has one Janday to sale (brother/sister). We plan to but a second bird anyway, so we are considering buying the other bird too. So my question is: is it ok to keep sibling together? We don't plan to breed them. But I am still concerned (what if the parrots "decide" to have babies?). What do you think?

In the breeding community it is acceptable to breed siblings together. It would be the same, approximately, as breeding a sibling to a parent. However, those offspring would then need to be immediately bred out to unrelated birds.

Within the pet community, this kind of breeding is highly frowned upon! Done incorrectly, it can lead to health issues within offspring!

I would suggest getting both DNA sexed so you'll be prepared for any future outcomes! It is possible to keep siblings together, but if you don't want to breed, you need to be prepared in case the two are opposite sex and take a liking to each other in that way.

I've had male/female sibling bourke parakeets in the past that never bred, male/female cockatiel siblings that *did* breed, but the hen never laid any eggs, and I later found them separate homes. Currently, none of the birds that I have are related to any of the others.
