I am very interested in seeing other peoples set up for their conures. : D

I am thinking about changing Crumbs cage around : p
I am also interested to see what type of toys your conures like.

I'll post a picture of his current set up soon :)

It's the best cage we could get to met Crumbs requirements. He can't climb properly and falls off a lot. So we got the biggest and longest cage we can find in New Zealand : )

And just a picture of our wee kitty and "his turtle". He stole that turtle toy from my sisters room when he was a kitten and now it's "his". He even sleeps with it. :p

Here's an old picture of Jayde's cage. Need to rearrange it and take some new pics!!!

AS far as I know, the cages in NZ suck! And are probably expensive for something appropriately sized! Crumbs cage looks great though! Only thing I'd recommend would be some platform perches!

And cute kitty! :D

I just love all his toys! Pretty much anything bird related is hard to come by. Crumbs cage usually coats about $124 but I bought it on special for $63.

Good toys are very hard to come by. The best ones usually cost like $60. :( I make most of mine or buy them from someone who imports parts and make the toys themselves :)

What are platform perches? :p

Thanks he loves to follow me everywhere and was meowing at me as I was giving my fids more attention than him :p

I just googled platform perches and looked online and I don't think you can get platform perches in NZ. I've never seen them at our local pet stores. :(

You have the same cage as me Ash! I think I will eventually get a bigger one but he seems to like it so far. He will even jump off me to go back into his cage and play with toys sometimes when im busy on the computer or something.

That was the first day I got the cage for him (Not even 2 weeks ago)

null_zps3132e85b.jpg

I took this one after seeing your post. I have swapped out a couple of the toys he didn't seem to interested in and added the rope. I removed his little bird hut because I got him a second smaller cage purely for sleeping/travelling as I read they can become very territorial about their cage if they sleep in it.

This next picture is the very first time ever he has willingly laid on his back for anything!

Yes it's a beer bottle top and no I never let him get any of my precious beer :p

This one is just cute ;p haha

I need to get some rope perches. Crumbs use to have the same sleep hut but I bought a new one :p

Kylar is soooooo cute :D
Just look at those pictures. Crumbs still wont go on his back by himself.
I love that little playgym/stand. I need to get one myself, i'll have to make it as they are nearly impossible to find here D:

I can understand the lack of choice. I grew up like an hour from where you live and we didn't even have a McDonalds till I was 10 years old haha :p

You might be able to find a good one online providing the shipping cost doesn't make it ridiculous. I got lucky with the one I bought as it was marked as the wrong price in store and when I spoke to the employees they gave it to me for the wrong price which was like $30 cheaper than advertised :D

Takes a while for a bird to be comfortable on his back. I never trained my last GCC to do it but after a while he would just roll onto his back as soon as my hand came near him and get his tiny legs ready to wrestle with me hahah. I'm slowly getting Kylar there. He is happy to lay on his back in my hand providing im giving him a nice head massage! Though he always had a hold of my thumb with his feet.

Good luck finding a play gym or building one. Sadly I'm hopeless at construction lol.

That same flight cage could be had for $50 and under here in the USA.

When I was visiting NZ, I was sad to see the lack of variety in toys, cages and everything! It really is no surprise that things are so expensive there! Even the gas/petrol was 4x more expensive there than in the states when I visited!!!

I don't know about Australia, but I know that you can purchase platform perches from the USA and have them shipped there... although that could also be expensive... shipping, that is. :(

As another member pointed out, the wooden platform perches would also work out ok!

Ive tried buying online from an overseas vendor but with the exchange rates and shipping costs it ends up costing a fortune. My family doesn't really allow me to spend a fortune on just a "bird".

Crumbs will go on his back only if he is on my hand. He will stay there :D
If I give him a ball he will happily play but he wont anyone where else. Which is very cute :D

NZ has hardly anything D: There will be like a small shelf dedicated to "bird stuff" in our pet stores. Most of it is food. Cages take up an small isle but there is usually about at most 5-15 cages to choose from. It's section is so very small compared to cats, dogs, fish and sometimes rodents (rabbits, rats, mice) have a larger section.

I have order some things form the USA but with shipping + exchange rates it cost me a fortune and my family wasn't very with how much I spent. Even exchange rates to aus $ still costs a lot. I'm trying to find someone who has low shipping costs so I can buy toys/toy parts off :D

Petrol still costs alot :p

Over in Australia there are a few really good online bird shops that’d ship to NZ for a reasonable price.

Animal Enrichment Australia - Kristy keeps the prevue metal corner shelf, an acrylic shelf, and two sizes of metal platforms.

Beaky Things - some nice wooden platforms both corner and shelf

Pablos Bird Toys - a few small shelves/platforms. Also some really nice leather toys and java perches (which are hard to come by down under).

My Parrot Shop - just heaps of great, natural, colourful, homemade and some commercial toys!
