Biting

Can someone please help, my green cheek is really aggressive when in her cage. She will put one foot on me then bite me really hard. Atm I take my hand away then n try again and eventually she does give me two feet but it takes like half hour? Once she is out she is generally fine unless I let her on my shoulder but generally she is fine. Can anyone give me some suggestions or just tell me if I'm doing the right thing

Re: Biting

How old is she? Green cheek conures conures can become nippy during puberty.

You should look into touch/target training with a clicker, that you you can target her to the cage door before offering your hand.

Re: Biting

I rarely if ever stick my hand into my GCC's cage ... I open the door and let her come out when she feels like it, which works fine because she is always super eager to come out. It sounds like your bird is feeling scared when you stick your hand in her cage. Can you just let her come out on her own? If so, that would take away a situation you've identified as leading to biting.

She is only fifteen weeks old I believe, and I've have read that target training il give it a try. I have tried to just leave the door open however she didn't come out and I can't just leave it open till she does cuz I've got two dogs so don't wna chance it

Re: Biting

So there are two dogs outside of her cage ... kind of answers the question of why she doesn't want to come out. You're going to have to be really patient and accept her being scared, since she's in a situation where she feels under a lot of threat.

Re: Biting

no I lock the dogs out when I open her cage that's what I ment I don't want to have to shut the dogs out and wait all day. I have brought a clicker and pointer and started training her yesterday and it's really helping so thank u for suggesting it's going really well
