I am just curious.I know that some female birds will lay eggs, even if they have not been mated, and the eggs are not fertile. Is this true of conures as well?

*just wanted to add,I have no intentions of breeding birds-I just wanted to make sure Sweety is a boy and not a girl.(girls can have other medical problems with reproductive tracts-like getting egg bound and such, wich is why it would help to know)Sweety never laid eggs,so I am assuming boy,and I didnt want to stress him by having him 'sexed' as he is just a pet.If I can tell by weather he never laid eggs, that would save me some trouble of wondering his gender.

Unfortunately NOT laying eggs doesn't tell you anything. He could still be either male or female. Of course if you ever find an egg you will know for sure.

It is true for conures as well that they can lay eggs whether or not they are fertile. But there is no guarantee that a single female would lay eggs.

lol Thanks guys.

How would you go about finding out his gender? I know reptiles they 'probe' them, wich I refuse to do to Sweety. Can it be determined from a blood test?If so,the next bloodwork they do I will add the test on.If not, then I guess we shall never know!
