Hi everyone,

Boomer was his normal self last night. When I uncovered him this morning, there are things that make me worry:

1. He did not do his big morning poop, just a tiny one. I weighed him at 103g. When I weighed him 3 days ago, he was 108g. That's a 5g difference in the course of 3 days.

2. For breakfast, he ignored his veggie/fruit mash but he did eat a slice of apple. He's drinking a lot more than usual. 30 minutes later, he would not eat an almond. He loves almonds.

3. He also seems more still and sleepy. He did not even follow me to the next room. He would usually fly to me or start his contact calls. He just sat on his perch.

4. He usually regurgitates for me but it is more the consistency of white, thick quaker oats and never a lot. This morning, he's regurgitated twice almost too quickly, and its more like a clear, liquidy substance.

Right now he is just very quiet, resting on my leg as I am typing. I wonder if he's sleepy because I kept him up last night (kept blowing my nose every 30 mins in the other room but I'm sure he could hear me). I left a voicemail with my vet to see if they have an open schedule for me. Should I be worried? Am I over-reacting maybe? I really don't want to expose him to sick birds at the vet unless I really have to...

PS. Also I am very careful about the chemicals and objects I use at home. I am well read on what is toxic to birds so I'm sure its not anything like that. Nothing new was introduced. etc.

I'm a big believer in better safe than sorry. Can't hurt to take him in and have him checked.

I would doubt your blowing your nose would be enough to make him sleepy.

So hard to say, he might be sleepy. Sometimes our birdies are sleepy like that when they have been up late, especially if it's a dark rainy morning. keep monitoring you know boomer best.Go with your gut on this.

Thank you, everyone. I am going to take Boomer to the vet with Chris. They will see me in 1 hour. He just vomited into my open palm, at least 1 tablespoon full of clear liquid. That is not normal :( He won't take almonds or pistachios and keeps drinking.

I don't understand what happened. He was normal last night. Besides the colder weather, nothing much has changed. :(:(:( Please send good vibes to Boomer. He's a strong bird so this is so unusual!

PS. Come to think of it, I did catch him munching on mineral build ups around the kitchen faucet 2 days ago. I could not stop him in time. He's done this before though. Just thinking out loud...

I don't think you are over reacting, 5g difference is a bit much and that he didn't want his favorite foods.... Some of that describes my Lilo, she refuses favorite treats all the time because she's picky. One time she became a little more thirstier but her water bottle was just backed up with food! She's very bright eyed and bushy tailed, that's just her little thing! Does he have a water bottle? If so maybe its backed up. I hope he gets better and back to normal soon! :orange:

Praying that the vet can fix Boomer right up...sending good thoughts your way and keeping my fingers crossed that it isn't serious.

Thank you everyone. Were at the vet now.

Boomer puked in the car ride to vet again. He seems week with eyes not open all the way. I'm worried about fluid loss and he still had no appetite.

Driving home from the vet. They gave him a shot of antibiotic + anti inflammation that will last in his system for 5-7 days. They did a stool and blood test. The results will come in on Monday.

They gave me oral meds. Baytril is an antibiotic to be given 2x a day for 7 days. Then some other med for yeast control. They're not sure if he has yeast infection since his results were good 3 months ago. But they said when birds are sick, their yeast level goes whack so the medication they have is more preventative.

Boomer is still not eating and appears weak with eyes half closed. He hasn't puked since the car ride to the vet. I really hope he hangs in there. He was perfectly fine last night. I don't understand what happened.

Only thing I can think of is, I had a bad cough and cold all week. He sometimes tries to kiss me so he might have gotten some bacteria. I've been sick around him before though with no issues. Just hope he gets better.

Thanks again to everyone for the kind thoughts.

BoomBoom, Just reading this thread now. I'm praying for Boomer. He's such a cute and lively little guy that it's hard for me to think of him being sick. I'm praying for Boomer and thinking of the both of you. He's young, has the best care, and he's been super healthy and loved so much, so he is in good shape to fight an illness. Please keep us posted.
