Wondering what is the best value in travel cages. Argyle the GCC needs a travel cage so that he can go to the vet, and in case I go on vacation or anywhere. Want something that will fit into my car easily. I have a 16" x 16" cage that I bought with him, but it is a bit akward in the car. Looking to spend less than $100, and would prefer less than that.

I use a cat crate. $20 at petsmart. Obviously that wouldn't work for the bigger birds, but for the smaller ones it works fine.

I use dog carriers from Walmart. They are plastic with air cutouts on the top section. I place a hand towel on the bottom or paper towels. They are very nice for any type of weather because you can easily cover it with a towel for winter. You can get a small one right now for $16.47 which is more than large enough for a gcc.

I found a few 'small bird' travel cages at petco that had perches already in them. They're about 16" long, 6" wide and 6" high. I have one for each of my birds. I paid around $10 for each of them.

You want a travel cage that is big enough that they can easily turn around in, but not too high or big that they can get tossed around in the event of rough roads etc.

What I would do is ask a clerk at a pet store or even your local vet for suggestions. That's what I did.

A little tip though, IF you have a sleep cage or 'time-out' cage, I suggest not using either of them for the vet trips. IF your bird associates your sleep cage with the vet, he/she may give you a hard time about going into their sleep cage. Just a thought. :)) Hope I could help!

6" wide and 6" high is too small for a conure. I used to have a hamster cage as a travelling cage 9" long and 7" wide. My GCC kept damaging her tail feathers in it. Plus it was too light and got knocked over by the wind a few times. My friend warned me that he used to have a similar small light weight travelling cage for his parakeet. He left it on top of his car while unloading other stuff. A hawk swooped down, picked the cage with the parakeet still inside, flew up, and dropped the cage down 30ft away. His parakeet die on impact.

I got this little cage my green cheek loves it. I must say my keet loves it too now. My birds did not like the plastic pet carries at all

I must say I only use the plastic dog carriers for short trips.

I ended up going with this cage, and set it up tonight. I am curious how people get their birds comfortable with their travel cages? Should I put argyle in it for short periods and feed him in it? Or is there a better way? I was going to put him on the perch handle to hang out, but he was scared of it and made an immediate exit back on to my shoulder when he saw it...

My birds both love it. I think the green cheek started loving it when she realized she gets to ride in the car. She loves looking for hawks and other birds of prey
