Newbie with Jenday Conure nest or no nest question.

Hi, I'm Tonyalaya and we have a 7 month old Jenday named Tango. He was hand raised and is very sweet and cuddly. He really likes to sleep on his back so I was thinking of getting him a nest basket thingy. (He rejected the fleece triangle thing we bought him, he doesn't like things that move when he steps on them. But he would sit on his perch and lean on it. It was so funny, but it only took him a week or so to chew through the loops that held it in his cage.)

So, my question is: If we give him a cuddly spot in his cage to sleep, will that change his behavior? I know with females it may prompt nesting behavior, is that true for males as well? (He is DNA sexed as male.) He's such a snuggle bug with the kids, I don't want to cause him to be territorial or cranky because he'd rather be in "his" nest. But if it won't make him persnickety, then I'd like to see him be able to sleep at night snuggled up like he seems to enjoy sleeping in the kids' laps during the day.

So, to nest? or not to nest? That is the question.

It can trigger hormonal bouts with males just as strongly, but if its in the shape of a typical birds nest he'll probably just have fun shredding it. Most parrots generally nest in holes and cavities. what a cute little bird!

Welcome to the forum!!! Cute pic. It may or may not change his behavior, not every bird is the same. I give a Nanday Conure a box to sleep in and everything was fine but it doesn't mean another conure would act the same way.

Thank you for the replies. Yeah, we think he's pretty stinkin' adorable. And talk about personality! This bird is hilarious! I think for now we'll just let him get his snuggle time in a kid's lap. We homeschool our our children, so he's out and playing or hanging out with someone most of the daylight hours. Sometimes I have to tell them to put him in his cage so he can rest. They keep him hopping!
