Hi everyone!
I'll keep this post short, but I just wanted to post a thank you for all the members of this forum. I've been lurking on this forum for a few months now, preparing for the purchase of a conure. It's been wonderful to see all the questions answered and pictures of beautiful birds.
It's been an awesome resource since I've been working on taming a maroon bellied conure before bring her home. Both my boyfriend and I knew that she would be a great bird (we immediately saw she was outgoing, curious, spunky, and full of personality!) but she had no idea what fingers were apart from things she could chomp on!
It's been a process, but she is slowly turning into a cuddly bird. She still has her moments, but both of us can handle her, pick her up, and pet her head. She won't step up yet on command, especially from her cage, but I think that will be easier to resolve when she finally gets home. The only other time she gets bitey is when we put her in her cage and she decides she wants to wrestle. It's hard to resist, but I always end up with a couple bleeding bites from the experience.
We are moving into a new place in a few weeks, and we'll finally be able to bring her home! We're so excited to keep bonding with her!
Again, thanks all for the awesome community! Can't wait to finally have a bird to share as well
