Hello all, first post on here. I've had my GCC for about three weeks now. He's not DNA sexed but I made him a boy and called him Loki.
Anyway, ever since I got him, he does this strange thing when he's in his cage. He only ever does it for me and not for my sisters. He sits on his perch stretched up and then bows really low and like swings his head down. If I bow back, he'll keep doing it for ages! He's like a little old Japanese man! Does anyone know why?
Thank you :)

That sounds really cute!

I'm not sure what that could be! Maybe he just likes to imitate you because he's bonded to you? A sign that he recognizes you and wants to interact?

Our conure does something very similar. When I greet her in her cage, she will shake her head once to the side. I will do it back and back and forth we go :) I just assumed it was her little way of saying "MY PERSON HI" or a little game she likes to play.

Maybe someone else here has experiences like us!

Shanneh93, my conure does the exact same thing to me and my oldest son each time when I come from work or when my son comes home from school. My son and I are the only 2 people she bonds to, at the moment. She would fly only our shoulders and does this this dance - bobbing her head way down touching her beak on her shoulder and raise it way back while raising her neck feathers and fanning her tail, and she shrieks while doing this. She does this a few times. Or if she is on the dinning table or piano when we come home, she would put her beak on table or piano and walk in a straight line then fly onto our shoulder and continue the dance. Those are signs of happiness!

That's awesome! He does it only when he wants to , because he is a free spirit :p

My conure does the same thing!! I have assumed that it is a sign of excitement. I just bob my head back or start singing to him. :)

I think its normal. My GCC Mina does the exact same thing. It is always when he wants attention. After his loving display he flys to me says his name and rubs his head all over my face. Sometimes the little stinker will land on top of my head and hang from my hair to look directly in my eyes while hes upside down. They have so much personality.

That's completely normal, I think most GCCs perform that routine. It's undoubtedly some sort of ingrained attention-seeking excitement.

Haha, mine does that especially when I uncover him in the morning. Except he pops out his wings/shoulders and flares out the feathers around his face. Its strange because he'll never take his eye off of you
