Blaze ~ Sun Conure
My little Blaze is being introduced to fresh fruits and veggies for the first them since I got her. I suspect this may be the first time in her life that she's getting these because she hesitates to try them or refuses to touch them at all. I tried putting some in her food and giving it straight to her, but she just turned her beak up. The only time she takes any interest is if she sees me eating it.

This goes for anything. Granola bars, fried rice, cereal... it's like if she figures she can get enough to hold, she'll nibble on it. So to get her to eat the healthy snacks, I started eating with her on my shoulder, and in a few seconds, I'll see an orange head coming out of my peripheral.

Today was exciting though. I was eating an apple half, hoping she would be enticed. After Blaze took her first bite, I put her down on the couch and held the apple for her. I've never seen her eat something new without me having to share back and forth. I was so proud. I hope I can get her to eat vegetables soon.

All my fids are like that. They aren't interested in anything except what I'm eating :p

Ziva - Pineapple Green Cheek Conure
Ziva (GCC) and I eat fruits and veggies all the time together. I'm diabetic so I snack on lots of veggies and fruits, and I'm always sharing with her. Red bell peppers and pears are two favorites. I normally cut them up into slices and it's funny to see little bites in my food. She's also been know to zip in and steal a cracker, which is taken away from her with much fighting and tugging. But yeah, anything we are eating Ziva will want.

Peeko is a stinker. He had no interest in any food I tried to offer him other than pellets and seeds for over a year, no matter how much of it I ate in front of him and how much I encouraged him. Then he decided overnight that he was going to steal food off of my plates that I didn't offer to share with him (grass is always greener?) so I just end up leaving plates of fruits and veggies where I know he'll see it and pretend not to notice when he sneaks around like a little shadow creature and thinks he's pulled off some grand heist when he steals a bite of "my" fruit and veggies :p

I guess they figure, "Hey, if Mom/Dad eats it, it must be good!"

Yep. My GCC only wants what I'm eating. I think most birds are like that.

Avery, a GCC born on March 5th, 2013 & Shiko, a blue IRN born on February 25th, 2014
Perhaps I'm just fortunate, Avery and I spend many mornings and nights where I simply sit there handing her fruits and veggies until she's no longer interested (I think she loves watching me wait on hand and foot for her...). It may also be due to how I time feeding her those things. Because she's hungriest in the morning, I only give her lots of veggies and fruits. After an hour of on and off munching, most of it is gone and I replace it with Roudybush. I do the same thing at night before bed, as we share some fruits and veggies as a bed time snack :)

But I will agree with most of the feather parents here... I CANNOT have Avery around the supper table. While it is hilarious watching my little GCC chase mine and my boyfriend's utensils and plates, it makes eating ridiculously difficult, haha! Especially when she has the genius idea of climbing up your shirt to intercept the fork going into your mouth...

If I'm to eat in peace, I have to give them all some bird bread which they munch while surrounding me. Or I hide in the laundry room lol :)
