Hi everyone!
I am here to report about Sunny the almost 3 year old Sun conure I adopted from craigslist. I brought him home on February 17th.
First off...I am absolutely HEAD OVER HEELS in LOVE with him! I knowwww.....we are still in the "honeymoon" phase, however, it's going to be interesting to see if he changes much.
Sunny is my first and will probably be my only sun conure and when people ask about noise level...I can attest...he is by, far the loudest bird in our home! Our green cheek, Franklin...is NO comparison to the decibels that come out of Sunny! Sun Conures definitely have a rather unique shrill in their tone and if he's on my shoulder and does his call while looking at me, it's near deafening and leaves my ear ringing. I might start wearing ear plugs! LOLOL
Don't get me wrong, he is not a screamer...at least not yet and hopefully never, but he'll call out this two tone call and when he says "whatcha doin? He says it in a loud voice. He also has a cute little "whoop" whistle (not a wolf whistle) that he does and I heard him in his cage doing some quiet conure garbely goop chatter in a higher pitched womans voice.
Today, interestingly, I received an email from his previous owner in response to one of my updates to her and she said I find it hard to believe you are talking about Sunny! It sounds like he is a different bird!! Maybe you have the magic touch.
Here he squawked all the time except when he was out of his house. I tried everything I could to understand how to stop the squawking. He just didn't stop unless he was let out!
I wondered if there was a tad more to his story. She loved him so, that is clear, but maybe the squawking was more then the other family members could take and they encouraged her to let him go??
None the less, he is fitting in SUPERBLY in our home. He's not yet even offered to bite any of us, loves to share our food, flies to us and follows me through the house, he's already taken a dip in the kitchen sink faucet while I was washing dishes, he curious, active, sweet, healthy and seems to really be enjoying life here...so far.
You can say..."Sunny Dance" and he sways side to side lifting each foot almost marching in place...it's freaking ADORABLE!
He's not much for scritches or petting of any sort, but cuddling up to my neck...yes, letting me kiss and nuzzle him, yes, getting right up to my lips when I talk to him...yes. So hey, that's better than nothing.
Here's picture I took of him today sitting on my knee trying to enjoy his piece of almond...our little dog Snickers just wants to give him her "Hello I'm Snickers" lick...but it really looks like she's begging him to share his treat with her.
I'm truly amazed at how well adjusted Sunny is in such a short time being with me. I really thought he'd be home sick and take a bit to adjust, but he's taken to our home, like a fish to water.
I couldn't be more pleased.
I hope our future updates are as positive, because I really don't want an angry sun conure on my hands...I have a feeling that could be miserable!
Take care all!
Toni
