Hello my fellow farents!

When I first joined this forum it was mainly to share my love of these amazing creatures and funny stories but also to seek and give advice. It got a bit lonely sharing my stories with others who do NOT have birds or they have cats/dogs/horses instead. Our ability to relate to one another was a bit limited.

But finding the right thread to do that here was proving a bit difficult for me to figure out and then I got an idea.

Maybe other members have done this or not - but I'm gonna create this thread for me and my sun conure, Skittles. A one-stop place for me to share about him and our life together. Rather than create a new thread every time something happens. More organized, for me, anyways. I hope people don't mind.

I hope all will enjoy this and I look forward to conversing with all of you as well and hearing your stories and such about your sun conure fids!

May the feathers be with you and your fids; as Darth Parrot would say.:orange:

I suppose I will start with what is going on today with us.

Today has been an active day, so far - at least vocally. LOL Skittles was misbehaving earlier. Peaches, my cockatiel, was getting him going. I'm not disciplining her for three reasons - she screeches only when she is happy, wants to come out or needs more food/clean water. I'm happy to see her all spunky again - I think the hormone supplement is starting to work. The down side is that she will be more vocal now, versus dead quiet when she is nesting with her eggs. But Skitty doesn't normal act out like this even when she is vocal.

Skittles is in his third timeout right now. He did the most adorable thing earlier after his second timeout. I almost cracked up. I kept saying to him while he was in the cage "you gonna behave?" And EVERY time I said it, he would rapidly bob his head up and down and make kissy noises. Little brat.

But it didn't take long for him to start up again, he's been in time-outs 3 times today. I don't mind his normal screeches like he does when I first wake him up - but when he gets going (for example when he sees someone come over or sees something new or unfamiliar) his pitch gets MUCH louder and piercing like it was earlier. If he sounded like that EVERY time he screeched I'd go out of my mind. LOL.

He knows when he's acting up, today he made me chase him for the second and third time-outs. THAT makes me very mad when he does that cause he KNOWS he's misbehaving but is testing me. So I go and find him and I squirt him with the bottle and then put him in the cage.I show HIM whose the boss around here! LOL. I think he's more like 'yeah, but I'm cuter so nanner nanner nanner"

I don't know what he and Peaches were arguing about but I know he wouldn't let me play Angry Birds earlier.

Skittles sure is beautiful, and quite a character! I know what you mean about other people not "getting" us regarding our birds. I look forward to seeing pics of Skittles and Peaches!

You know, it amazes me how the personalities of our feathered companions continue to show up day to day.

For example, yesterday I was on the verge of strangling Skittles. He was acting up for practically the whole day, for no good reason.

I felt my blood pressure increase throughout the day, by the time I put him to bed, I was just mentally and emotionally exhausted.

Then today came along. He's been quite for practically the whole day. The only exceptions being when I first woke him up and a brief period when I was involved in doing a few things around the house.

For this reason, I tend to give him a bit of slack when he has, as I put them, 'bad Skitty' days. I do set and keep boundaries and I do punish him accordingly - but if I compare the Skittles from yesterday to the Skittles of today, it's like Jekyl & Hyde, no exaggeration.

Skittles has begun his moulting. His ever possessive personality even stretches to his 'discarded' feathers which he constantly tries to take away from me when I pick them up. No fair.

He gets REALLY bossy this time of year, which isn't really that different from the rest of the year.

What a great idea; I love reading stories about peoples' birds just as much as I love telling about my precious Hotrod! I might have to do this myself!
Whenever I put Hotrod in his cage for time-out (and sometimes just when he wants out) he will go to the top of his cage and hang upside down from one foot and flap his wings. It is the cutest/funniest thing ever!!

Hotrod, what an adorable name!

Yeah, they are peculiar little clowns. I was brushing my teeth the other day and I normally don't let Skittles sit on my shoulder when I am doing that or shaving for obvious reasons - but I let him sit on my shoulder this time and he kept trying to pry my lips open as well as take the toothbrush away from me. I'm sure he thought the toothbrush was food and you know what that means!

You folks are not gonna believe what happened to me today, although the more I think about it - it really isn't that surprising.

Skittles is my little shadow. He follows me everywhere and I always have to be in his line of sight or he will screech. But sometimes, I can make it to the bathroom or the bedroom without Skittles following me - it's rare, but I can on occasion. It's cause he's distracted. Which was the case today. I had just finished up cleaning his cage and he was probably 'inspecting' my work.

Well, I then went into the bedroom to clean Peaches cage (my cockatiel). I pushed the door to almost close, but I left it slightly ajar so I could just pull it open when I was holding the bottom of her cage rather than having to turn the nob and pull.

Anyways, I was getting ready to take the grill out of the bottom of her cage when I heard a 'tap-tap' on the door, I turn around and the little stinker was on the floor and pushed the door open and then flew up to my shoulder. He then proceeded to try to stop me from cleaning her cage (by raising his head feathers, screeching, and grabbing my shirt and rapidly shaking it).

I don't know about him sometimes.

Haha that's hilarous! I love Sun Conures, they're so expressive.
Maybe he was jealous that you were paying attention to the other birdies cage? :)
I know how you feel about having a shadow, though- my two conures do it ALL the time. My GCC usually ends up under my computer chair, and my white-eared girl Kiwi follows me everywhere! (Or she cries until I come back.)

Oh he was definitely jealous. He gets mad even when I talk on the phone. But he also can go hours and hours without making a sound if I let him be near me. He's actually sitting on my shoulder right now with his wing 'pressed' against my neck.

Expressive, you say? Understatemen! LOL. I've heard amazing things about green cheeks but I've never owned one. Skittles is my first conure. I have a 19y/o cockatiel and most of my experience was with tiels and parakeets. I did have a dove and a lovebird at one point.

I don't mind the shadow so much, even when he follows me to the bathroom. I just don't like it when he sticks his tongue out and wags it when I'm taking a leak. LOL. (Of course he does that when any liquid is pouring - albeit from the faucet or from a bottle).

A couple people requested some pics of Skittles and Peaches last week and I thought I'd share some until I get more taken.

I decided to post them in this thread that I started last year (before I took a break from the forum) rather than start a whole new one.

Plus, I hope to share more stories of the little devil and his angel sister.

Yeah, he's a colorful little bugger. Inside and out. Just today he was entertaining himself at my expense. I was hanging laundry out to dry in the hall. Every time I do that, he flies onto the clothesline and proceeds to 'remove' the clothespins. After he tosses each one, he makes a single screech. Not sure what he is saying, but I gave up picking them back up a long time ago.

Here's some 'back' pictures of him.

You should meet my mother. Her first reaction to him when I showed her pictures of him (she lives out of state) was "yes, he's beautiful, but I wish he had more red and less yellow".

That was the first, and so far only, 'critique' I've heard about his coloring. I think it's rather sad actually. My own mother cannot see the beauty, but she was 'spoiled rotten' by my dad for years so she is used to having 'exactly' what she wants. Hence, why I don't live in the same state as her. LOL

I have one bird. He is a Black Capped Conure and his name is Harley. His hatch date is 2/3/2014.
Your babies are absolutely beautiful! Skittles is stunning! I got a kick out of reading some of your earlier stories. Kind of reminds me of my little knuckle head. I don't have a sunny but I have a black capped named Harley. Some of the stories I could tell are quite.... Well he's got quite the personality so his actions speak for themselves LOL. For example, he knows a few swear words from my potty mouth. He's playing with one of his toys on top of his cage. In his own little world beating the snot out of his swing he fell. First thing out of his little beak wasn't a cry, or a screech but instead a simple 'damn it' and he looked around to see if anyone saw him . I pretended as if I didn't see. So he climbed back up his cage and beat the snot out of swing again. It hit his beak so he called it an asshole.... Oh goodness he's a handful.

Well I don't care what your mom says ;) Skittles is one of the most beautifully colored conures I've ever seen. He might have some red factor genes? He's darker than most Suns I've seen, although all Suns are gorgeous.
