I introduced Bella and Jack and they basically just ignored each other and were otherwise passive. I guessed by Jack's reaction to Bella that Bella is also male. I would expect if he was a hen that Jack would be more interested and trying to impress. It has been several months since I introduced them and they live together in a big cage. They haven't shown't much notice to each other but recently have been sitting close to each other and I even witnessed some preening.

My question is will 2 male conures bond? Or do I have a pair on my hands?

They are both mature birds. They are both very friendly pets that love to sit on my shoulder. Jack can be aggressive toward certain people like my mom but not all strangers. Bella can be nippy with strangers but her broken beak affects her ability to bite hard enough for it to hurt. Well I hope you liked my story and could maybe answer my questions.

-Beautiful birds.
-Yes it's possible for two of the same gender to bond. To know for sure if they are the same gender or not, would be to get them DNA sexed.

My male never acts interested in my female even when she throws her butt around. My male is DNA tested. So you never know what is what until you have DNA to tell you for sure. Or there is eggs laid (then you know you have a girlie:p) and then they hatch (then you know you have a boy too:p)!

I know the one is male because his mate died from egg binding. But the other (Bella) I have no idea. I just assumed that if they were a pair I would have seen some mating by now. DNA is unnecessary since they are both disabled. Jack is missing a toe and has some kind of problem with his grip. And Bella has a broken beak. So I think they are better off as pets.

I've had two male budgies try to mate with each other. Since neither one wanted to be on bottom, they were never successful in mating with each other.

Since conures mate side by side, I don't think it'd matter!

As far as "disabilities" - only as far as you allow it to be! Birds can breed just fine with broken/injured beaks and injured or missing ligaments! Am I suggesting you try and breed? Nah. Not really. Just saying it is possible though to have breeding pairs with injuries or deformities.
