decided on a green cheek been researching a long time and they're the bird for me. I do really want opinions on this cage I found online A&e Cages AE-PC-4226DB Small Split Level House Bird Cage - Black: Other Pet Supplies : Walmart.com
Please let me know what ya think I really want to make the best home possible when I finally get to bring home my little friend.

THANK YOU!
You guys seriously rule. All of your advice and comments were very helpful feel free to keep em coming. I haven't decided where or when exactly I'll get the bird. So plenty of time to prepare and whatnot. That's still part of the research I'm doing. Going to be moving around late August so I'll just wait till I'm in the new place to get the actual bird. I've decided on a pineapple so if anyone has any leads on them in the greater Denver CO area that would be awesome.

Hello and welcome to the forum!
That looks like a great cage! So much room in there, and I think that the 5/8 bar spacing would be fine for a GCC. Someone here who has one may be better able to answer that question, though:)
When do you bring your new baby home?

This would work. You can find cages much cheaper that would work though. I believe you can even find that specific cage much cheaper.

For some reason this is the lowest I could find this one right now. It was 120 when I bought the cage but we did pick it up so not sure if they took some off the price. Currently my cockatoo is living in it so a gcc would have plenty of room.

It is a very roomy cage for a green cheek. A very good thing if you end up getting more than one. Check out wayfair for a better price though. You can also pick different colors.

I think that's a great cage! Even if it is a bit more expensive, the play-top on it is so big you would probably end up saving money from having to buy a separate play stand. And you can really load that up with toys and perches. I've heard conures are VERY active birds, so I'm sure your new baby would appreciate the extra room. Plus, if you have room for a cage that size and can afford it, the bigger the better is the general rule!

We bought wood to make our own stand for 60 or so! If you are good at making things you could always buy a less expensive cage and make a cheap stand. Then buy a million and one toys to keep them occupied:) I also like the stands that you can roll to different areas of the house depending on where you are doing stuff.

At the beginning I bought all the expensive stuff but having 8 now (and my mother having 2) that doesn't always work so I'm always looking for a little less expensive way these days:D

My green cheek conures are actually pretty lazy. They are in 36 by 24 by 24 cages but they don't do much of anything. They will explore the baskets and such but not much else. Even when they are out they climb up and down the stand for food but are not overly active creatures. My sun on the other hand:52:

The cage type should be based on whether you want to keep your GCC flighted or not. And do you have a dedicated bird room?

My GCC is fully flighted since birth. I found that GCC is more of a velcro bird. All of those fancy play stands outside of the cage are useless. GCC rather perch and play on your shoulder or other things around the house. You can put it on the stand, but if it is flighted and has access to the entire house, it would fly to your shoulder as soon as you are 5 steps away. Toys and play stand are a waste of money for my GCC because my wife stays home all day, the bird rather perch on her whenever she let it out. If you don't have a dedicated bird room, get this cage. It is a very nice looking for any livingroom. I think the price went up since I got it from Wayfair. By the way, I can fit in it. My GCC can't stand beeing lockup in any cage, especially, when it knows there is someone home.

That cage would be great, but if you're looking for a cheaper alternative for any reason, this is the cage I use for my green cheek. I have no complaints, other than you'll have to find a way to keep the food/nest doors closed, as they can be pushed open from the inside with little effort. A few clips do the trick just fine!

That cage is GREAT.. A little $$$ but if you have it go of it.
I would say to go to your local Flea market and see if you see anything you like. (you can work with them on the price) lol My mom had 5 birds and she had nice cages and she had not paid more then $100 for any of them.
This is the cage I have for my GCC Kiwi and she has a ton of toys and room to move around. I didn't get it from Dr. Foster & Smith but a local bird store and paid around $150.

That's a pretty good cage! Expensive though, hahaha. This is the cage I have for Avery:

It's 3/4" bar spacing and it's just fine, she can't get her head through at all. She uses all the space and loves climbing around in it, and I loooveeee the seed guards :)
