Hi everyone, this is more of a "hello" I suppose, than anything else.
I've opted to sign up here because this group seems so supportive of new and senior bird owners. After many years of on-an-off deliberation and research (and a bonus from work!), I decided to take the plunge this week and get a sun conure baby from a breeder. This will be my first bird ever.
The baby should be ready in about 2 weeks, and I'm very excited. I'm grounded in my expectations of the bird, did my reading, and so on, but it occurs to me that NONE of my friends are bird owners, so I have no one local to lean on!
I am opting to start with a suitably-sized acrylic cage (expensive, ugh), some perches and toys, and possibly a portable playset. All of this will be acquired from a reputable local bird store. I also intend to get a special lamp/bulb for him, looking into getting him a TV or something to watch while I'm at work (9to5), and even a pan/tilt webcam so I can see him from work.
He'll be joining two crated corgis and a big fat cat, and I believe locking the cat away might be a good idea since I don't want him terrorizing the bird. I'm open to ideas there (I may move the main cage to a different room when I leave for work).
Anyway, hello to everyone, and I hope you don't mind the inevitable deluge of questions that will follow!
