Ducky, my green cheek

Rack, Shack & Benny, my budgies
My GCC Ducky is totally bonded to me. She's such a sweet girl, and I spoil her rotten. I have only had her for a year, but I love her like a child.

This week I am on vacation overseas, and my sitter texted me yesterday saying that Ducky hasn't been eating her pellets. I noticed Ducky had a lot of food left in her bowl when I got back from my last trip, a few months ago. My trips aren't long, between 4-7 days tops. I thought she was just mad at the sitter or didn't like the change in food. (I had mixed a new veggie mix for her before I left).

But now I'm realizing that Ducky stops eating when I leave. The sitter says she doesn't move much, so I'm thinking she is depressed. I instructed the sitter to give Ducky whatever she wanted, fruits, Seed mix...whatever. I just want her to eat at this point. I will put her back on her regular diet when I get back. I return home day after tomorrow but I am so worried right now.

It's not like I am home all the time. I work long hours 9am - 9pm and she spends her days alone with the two budgies, but she couldn't give two cents about them. I keep the tv on for her. She doesn't like toys, no matter how much I train her to play with them or switch them out. She just waits for me to come home so I can let her out. She flies around for a bit, but mostly likes to snuggle. She is very happy and loves to do everything with me, from working at the computer to taking a shower. I have noticed that she usually only eats when I am in the room with her. So now my heart aches to go back to her and tell her that I haven't forgotten her. Obviously taking her overseas is not an option, and I only do it twice a year for one week. How can I keep her happy while I am gone? The sitter lets her out some days, but not all the time.

I have thought about leaving my computer on for her so I can skype her once a day. I wonder if that will make her feel like eating...??

Any suggestions on what else I can do??

Also, I have a 3 day trip coming up in June. I will be flying to go visit my mom. Will it be more traumatizing for her to go with me? She has never been out of the house. I used to try to take her out in a small acrylic cage, but she would start panting and shivering from fright, so I stopped.

Thanks for any help,
-worried feather mommy
