Okay so I've had Elsa since the 18th of this month. She is great! She is fully flighted so this is new to me. I'm not sure how to go about training her boundries of where to land and where to stay off of. She tries to go in the fridge, land on dogs, and even strangers, lol. The biggest thing is that if there is anyone else in the room she will fly off of me and land on them. She also will try to "remove" pimples and birthmarks on peoples skin. She also doesn't like having her wings extended, which is very important since harness training will start soon! I'm not complaining, I'm just looking to see what I can do to help her be better behaved. I don't know if these are things that can be addressed or if these are things I should work around.

Greg Glendell talks about teaching some flighted commands, although I don't necessarily like the way he teaches them.

Obedience Training for Flighted Parrots by Greg Glendell

It would be a good idea to set up a variety of perches around your home where Elsa can fly to and make sure there's something at each spot that she can interact with or munch on.

I have a big perch in the computer room and a playgym that can be moved around. However she just ignores them. If I put her on them she will just fly back to me. I'd like her to be a little more independent so she doesn't become dependent on constant physical attention. She is doing well with the clicker training but I have not found a way to get her to take her focus off of peoples arms and shoulders yet. I just want her to be well rounded. I will review your article and let you know what I think.

Elsa is now obsessed with my mom. My mom doesn't want the bird on her at all. Elsa will fly throughout the house looking for my mom just to land on her head. And if I take her back she immediately goes and finds her again. How can I fix this?

Can you figure out what exactly about your mom that Elsa is attracted to? Is it her hair? Something she's wearing?

Well even though Elsa is only 3 months old the breeder was also an older lady so I think that's the problem. I really want her to pick me as her person, not my mom who could care less about birds.

To get her used to having her wings touched, do it frequently and say "wing" every time you touch her wing and reward her with a treat. Work your way up to extending them, just a little bit more each time.

Just an update on Elsa. She is letting me extend her wings now. Which is great because I'm ordering her harness soon. I've been teaching her to fly back and forth from her treestand. She is doing good with this. Now she will not only hang out on me but also fly to her stand and hang out a little. She was very well behaved today. Barely any nipping and she didn't get herself into trouble with her wings. And she's so cuddly!

What a cute picture!

I was wondering if Elsa likes the way your mothers hair is, or maybe the way she talks.... something specific like that.
