Tell me about your green cheek conures! I am looking for a parrot that isnt too loud, cuddly and sweet and playful. I will be buying a handfed one from breeder. I have experience with cockatiels.

I got my yellow-sided conure 2 weeks ago, his name is Loco. He's a very curious and playful bird, and can be loud when he gets excited.. but for the most part hes quiet and able to keep himself busy without screaming. This varies though depending on the bird's personality. Loco isn't a cuddler.. hes content just sitting on your finger.. hes not fond of petting, but again its only been two weeks, and im sure hes still adjusting.

I started training him last week, and he can turn and wave on command. Infact, he knows he only gets sunflower seeds when he turns and waves, so randomly, Loco will turn in circles on my finger then stop and wait for the treat he should be receiving.. he will always stand on top of cage and wave lol.

All in all, it depends on your bird.. take the time to learn what your bird likes and more importantly doesn't like... GOODLUCK!!

If that's what you're looking for, then conures are the right bird for you. They're very quiet when compared to other species of parrots, and are well known velcro birds who enjoy lots and lots of cuddles. :)

Avery is a work in progress for me, as I got her from a pet store where she basically hated everyone... which I don't blame her for. The staff were really rough on her. She's now ridiculously cuddly, but there's some things that are still hands off. Mind you, I can touch her all over and extend her wings, too, but bite pressure training is still a bit difficult with her. She's a very soft biter overall, but sometimes she'll give a real hard nip.

Which brings me to my next point... when conures go through puberty, expect a demon  Do NOT expect your bird to always be cuddly, loving, and kind with you as they grow up. Conures are rehomed so often because they go from a cuddle bug to a biting monster and their owners can't stand the "broken" bond. If you work hard to train them, establish a great relationship, and acknowledge that your baby isn't always going to behave perfect once they hit hormones, then go for it. I love my green cheek and I couldn't imagine a world without her!

cinnamon turquoise gcc - luna,
pineapple gcc - drago,
galah/rose breasted cockatoo - merlin,
timneh african grey - jasper,
pied cockatiel - picasso,
blue & gold macaw - mia
I've had Luna for a few weeks now and her personality is drastically different from my last green cheek, Bandit. She's super independent, hyperactive, very rarely cuddly, and not a big fan of scritches. Bandit was my little velcro baby and she preferred to be on my shoulder every minute of the day. She was very laid back and very sweet. Individuals vary, so you never know what you'll end up with ahead of time.

That said, green cheeks are fantastic birds. I'll have ten of them one day, I promise. They're generally very quiet and even when they do make noise, it's not very loud. They have a lot of big bird personality for such a tiny size. They're playful, fun, smart and easy to train. They do go through a beaky/nippy stage as babies and again when they hit puberty, but if you work with them using positive reinforcement, clicker training, etc, you'll get past it relatively easily.

I would say that green cheek conures are slightly higher maintenance than cockatiels, but still much more forgiving than some of the larger parrots.

I got my first ever parrot - a green cheek conure about 4 mo ago - my husband wanted to 'rescue' him from a Petsmart where this baby was so miserable. He was completely unplanned. :) Parry is THE BEST BIRD EVER!!!! He is loving, funny, cuddly and mischievous! :D And very smart! He brings so much joy to our life every day! Gcc is very easy to care for, and except the bird and the cage (well, maybe some teflon-free cookware) you won't have to invest a huge buck.

Yellow Side Green Check Conure
I have had my little Kiwi for almost a year. :rainbow1: she is a yellowsided GCC. Her hatch day is this coming Sunday! :D I LOVE her and could not imagine my life without her. She is not very cuddly but has her moments. ;) she wants to be with us all the time. Some days she wants to be with me and some days she's all about my husbands. Mostly she wants to be with me (Which I'm super ok with) I wanted a companion pet. She also has her "bad" days where she's nippy but for the most part she good.

Green Cheeked Conure called JellyBean
I got little JellyBean - from a pet store - nine months ago and I am completely smitten.. I could never describe the affection, playfulness, smartness and all over wonderfulness that you get from a green cheeked conure.... he is not loud, rarely screeches but talks to himself and is learning new words... My heart melted when on Christmas Eve he said "JellyBean"

i got 1 green cheek cinnamon,a rose crowned,a yellow sided and a hybride from the first 2

Kiva
Fury
Pixel
Hope
i got 4,and only one off them was planned.
2 i got from my parents and one was born here.
all four off their personalities are very different, but some off them came from bad situations.

Kiva for starters is a very Independent bird ,doesn't like cuddling or stitches but does come regularly by asking for kisses, she is not all that playfull and likes to take naps and being the playground bully.

Fury is a very happy bird,he is never down and is always playing, and he has an preening fetish, and he is the biggest eater you have ever seen!he loves stitches.

Hope is the village idiot as my best friend likes to say,she had no fear, will jump on anything and do everything you never thought a bird would do,she is also very hardheaded if she has something on her mind it would snow sooner in the summer than that she will forget it!and she is the cuddly one of all off them.

Pixel is a very scared birdie, but a darn sneaky one!!he will go in hiding and just when you think you can eat that cookie save,he will snatch it right then.
He isn't tam yet but will come to me,gives me kisses and preen me.
He is always playing, and even dances for attention in the cage.

Green cheeks have very big personalities and they very a lot.
But i wouldn't trade them for the world,i honesty think you can never go wrong with a green cheek.

Turquoise GCC - Fiji - Hatch Date: 8/14/12 and Yellow Sided GCC - Sundance - Hatch Date: 4/12/13
I have 2 GCCs, and they are completely opposite, personality wise. Fiji is the oldest, and a female. She is into everything, loves cuddling, and is the boss of the flock. Sundance is a boy, and he is more independent and shy. He absolutely HATES any kind of petting or touching, however he'll step up and give you kisses. He was also the first one to start talking, teaching Fiji his phrases. They both love to ride around on shoulders and hang out with us, though. ;)

So you never know what kind personality you're going to get! We love them both and appreciate their different personalities!

I've had two, both Cinnamon.

The first, Latka, we had for 5 years before he passed away. He was a best buddy to my husband, but was still very sweet with me. He had his moments of hormones and weirdness, but all in all, was a fun and silly guy. He wasn't much into cuddling with me, but was in love with preening my hubby for hours and helping him play chess on the computer.

Our new baby Phlox is only 6 months old (hatched 01/31/14) and she's only been with us for two weeks now. So far, she's all about me and she's a velcro bird. She's very interested in being my 3 yr old daughter's best friend, but she's not quite really to do anything other than supervised scritches just yet. (The beak scares her a little...better to be wary I say.) She's still in the nippy stage, but really only when you stop petting her. I think she's going to be a hoot.

I just love GCCs. They are just incredible.

(I'm assuming genders, btw. Neither are sexed. Latka never laid an egg...but that really doesn't mean anything.)

I have recently got two conures a male and female and I have another male. All pineapple mutation. I hope to have more in the future
I have three with the pineapple mutation. Last week I got two of them a male and female. My other male is very quiet except for when my dogs bark at the door he barks with them. My other male I just got is only loud when my one year old son does his high pitched temper tantrum. My female is very quiet and doesn't make a peep. My one male Kiwi, is very well behaved. My new male Jack is very nervous and runs away from every one but I only have him for a week. My female Sally has some behavior issues such as biting. But I got all three of them from previous owners. When Kiwi was four and these two are a year and half.
