Elmo - Varied Lorikeet - I miss you every single day
Hi everyone! I've been reading the forum for weeks now and figured it was actually time to join in on all the fun 😃
I'm hoping to have myself another companion birdie at the end of the year, and it's between a Blue throated or Crimson bellied conure. I'm hoping to hear as much info on both of them so please don't hold back with stories and experiences etc etc.
My beloved Varied Lorikeet Elmo, sadly passed away in Jan this year and he/she ( called he but found out was a she), was a very small breed at only 45 to 50 grams. With my new companion, I was ideally hoping for a bigger/chunkier bird which os why the blue throated is in the equation. I have chosen the Pyhhura conure due to it being a quieter breed as I live in an apartment, and the blue throated is in the equation due to it apparently being the biggest of the Pyhhura breed. I just don't know how Mich bigger as pics on the internet are hard to judge by.
Thank you in advance for any help 😃

BTC's aren't very common within captivity, so you aren't likely to come across very many people who have them as pets. CBC's on the other hand are far more common so you are likely to find more info about them.

Thanks for pointing out SPECIES not BREED :)
You hear that so often. Breed is for domestic animals only, selectively bred for traits which are upheld with a breed standard, like dogs, cats, rabbits, goats, etc...

The OP is in Australia, maybe you see them more there? I've heard of people having Blue Throated conures in Europe.

BTC's are also in Canada. Canada and Australia are normally where I hear about them the most. :)

Even then, they aren't very commonly kept. I do know one person who owns a BTC in Australia, but I don't really know much about the bird myself.

Yea the BTC is still very uncommon here, i know a few breeders in Aus from my last few days research but definetly cant find many stories or personal experiences with them. My main reason for looking into them is because they are meant to be bigger than the green cheek conure and i like the idea of them being a tad chunkier. The crimson bellied is easy enough, they are absolutely stunning little birds!
