Complete attitude change with my green cheek please help!

Okay so this las week has been eventful. We found out that out conure Pandora is actually a yellow sided green cheek! But anyway we also got another conure who is actually a green cheek (we named him Pantheon). Pandora immediately took to him. But now she wants nothi g to do with me. She is just fine still playing and cuddling with my fiance but wants absolutely nothing to do with me. I mean she has always been morw inclined to him because she lives with him and he is around her more but she used to get so excited when I came to see her and would give me kisses and cuddles but now she wants absolutely nothing to do with me. I pick her up and she immediately want to get down. I try and give her head scatches and she just wiggles until I give up and put her down. This is really depressing me. Last week she would cuddle with me all day but now its like she is either terrified of me or just doesn't trust me or I dont even know. I dont know what to do or if this is just the way its going to be now or what but id really lime some advice. I love her so much and it really hurts that she keeps rejecting me. I dont know if its because she is molting or not I know birds can get kinda weird when they molt but why the sudden change?

I have a similar situation - after I got three new birds Parry only wants to be with them although they are not friends at all. That is NORMAL - he is a bird! He cuddles with me a bit though, but doesn't sit on my shoulder anymore and wants to fly off when I take him. So I hope he gets over this first excitement and will be fine with me again (these birds are not conures). I would just wait a bit until your bird gets used to the new situation where he is not the only bird in the house.

It sounds like you are trying to force a bond, and Pantheon has decided that she doesn't like it anymore, especially since Pantheon is now around.


Have you ever tried any clicker training and positive reinforcement training with her?

Im confused with your post. Force a bond with who as in between the birds? Cause thats not it. The two are in separate cages in separate houses as of today so i can train him more often. Pandora was fine with me until about a week and a half ago. Then she absolutely wants nothing to do with me. We do positive reinforcement but she wont even let me work with her anymore.

This sounds like forcing her to endure your affections, as if she is being held against her will and you are then trying to pet her.

Sorry, but to me this does not sounds like a positive experience.

I think the poster did not understand why the sudden change and these are the things she used to do with her and didn't understand why it doesn't work anymore.

To me I don't force any of my birds to be with me if they don't want to. There's two of us and we have many birds around, so one leaves another one comes to me. So any of them prefer going to my partner, I said go ahead as I've got my hands full most of the time....lol

I dont I leave her be when she gets down i am offended that you think i would force her to sit with or around me ic she did not want to. But this is a dificult situation because I am the one who mainly works with the birds in training my fiance get to easily frustrated. And one of them are staying with me because he needs more work than she does.

You said she wiggles until you put her down. It sounded like she had no choice but to remain with you until you let her go.

Is it possible to take some videos of you working with Pandora so we can get a better feel for how you are training, and perhaps could give you some pointers? Maybe a way to try things differently?

I feel like the "wiggling" until put down is probably happening when cuddles are attempted. Several of my birds enjoy and even demand tight cuddles. If they were to change their mind they would have to wiggle (or bite) to let me know. It sounds like she isn't being bitten, I am just glad she cares about what her bird wants even when some bird owners wouldnt.

You are experiencing the side effects of getting another bird. Some birds just prefer birds and when they get a new bird friend, you no longer matter to them. Keep working with her as you can, but not with cuddles or whatever it is that she doesnt like. I suggest working mostly with Pantheon, and letting Pandora get jealous and come over for attention on her own, and then giving it to both. Please don't be hurt, she didnt do it to be mean, she did it because it it natural. This is something that many people experience when they add a second bird. In fact, I was recently warned by someone on this very forum about this when I mentioned getting another bird. Don't be hurt, just decide what to do next.

She is doing much better with training and even comes up to me by herself now. I think it was just the excitement of the new bird.
