Do other conures do this?

Raku does 2 things that seem weird, but I'm not sure if other birds do them.

The first is that when he's on my shoulder he tries to steer which way I'm going by leaning heavily in the way he wants.

The second is that he "barks" when he sees or hears people outside or seems them walk past my window.

On Saturday he lead me to the window so that he could bark at a woman in the parking lot.

Raku's previous owner said she used to have 2 dogs that he would ride around on. I suspect that the leaning thing was pretty effective at steering dogs. I also suspect the dogs barked at strangers walking by which Raku picked up on.

Has anyone else experienced their birds doing this?

First is quite normal especially in clipped birds. They can't tell you to go someplace, nor can they fly there so they give you queues to help you understand. Take that as your queue to bring them to their target destination, your bird will appreciate it. Interesting theory about him steering the dogs though, could have certainly happened since they can certainly steer humans too ( but dogs are probably more perceptive).

Second is normal relative to your bird since he grew up with smogs. Be happy he is barking instead of doing the conure screech lol!

Both are normal :)
Conures are highly intelligent little boogers and can pick up n behaviors and sounds quite easily. My baby is only a little over a year and he will bounce up and down to make you give him what he wants, Lol. He also Learned to give kisses withing my first week of having him and now he even says "Thank You" and will make his "falcon" noise whenever I yell falcon to him. The fact that yours barks at strangers honestly makes me wish Apollo could do that..Very Cute :) :D :orange:

That's too cute! Our dogs don't bark at strangers too much. Other dogs passing by they can't stand (I think it's more of a jealousy thing). But this really kind of makes me want to teach Ducati to bark lol. I don't know how the girls would take that though lol. "What's this funny little thing doing barking like us?"

Ducati dances to music when he hears it. The other day I caught him rocking from leg to leg when he heard a jingle on a commercial. He also apparently likes classic rock \m/

Raku's previous owner said he'd dance to music. I'm really hoping I can get him do dance for me. I'd love to have a video of my bird dancing to my favorite band.
