Hi all. Is there any way I can teach my sun conure how to fly? I have a Jenday and Green Cheek and both know how to fly. I feel bad for the sun as he can't fly. The Green Cheek is a year younger than the sun and is fully in flight.

Is he clipped? when I trained my clipped gcc to fly I went a few feet from the cage, put his favorite treat, sunflower seeds, on my hand and let his fly over to me. I started with very small distances, like 1 ft or so, and it took about a month for him to feel confident to fly.

Hello,

One way is to start out with him on a stand and hold your finger a foot in front of him, then with your other hand temp him with a treat to jump to your finger (say the same exact thing every time)

Move your finger closer to him till he jumps on and then give him the treat

Now just repeat it slowly moving a little further away, in a short time you should have him flying to you on command

Hope this helps

All of my adult birds can fly but they never do except the smaller ones as they do fly around but always flies back to me when they wanted to. I never push them to fly as I allow them to do it when they're ready. There's no need to feel sorry for them not flying, give them time to decide on their own. All my other birds rather just crawl down on the floor and walk around to find me if I'm not around.

He can only fly downward and not very good. His wings were clipped by prevous owner then twice when I got him last year. He is two years old. The way he flaps his wings sounds like they are very heavy compared to my other two.
