Ok, so Flick was clipped before she could fledge properly, but now her wings are grown out enough that she can fly. Until tonight, she has only flown when startled, which leads to a crazy turn about the house ending in her landing on the floor because she can't quite slow down enough to aim at a perch, or something like that.

Well tonight she was on my husband's shoulder when he started being a little too active for her. Not anything that would startle her, just irritate her. I saw her look over to the back of a nearby chair, and DECIDE to fly to it. A few minutes later when he calmed down, she flew back. It was only about 5 feet from my husband, but this is the first time I have seen her fly ON PURPOSE rather than "accidentally" when startled.

So exciting to see that first solo flight! Good job, Flick!

So encouraging. Snoopy was clipped before she fledged, and I had to keep her clipped due to our living situation until a couple of years ago. She has been fully grown out for at east a year but like Flick has only flown when startled. I have been hoping that she would eventually learn to fly "on purpose".

I bet she will :) We are very excited about this development :) I bought her a flight line so she can fly outside, be we havent used it yet. I want to wait until she is better recall trained.
